They told us we had double booked. Then things changed. Fouzia helped us organize everything with a huge, contagious smile on her face. We had a beer in the bar and the day turned around just like that. While we were there Elena arrived for her shift, and carried the same energy as Fouzia and was an absolute pleasure to speak to. Good choice of restaurants with some posh chocolate shops and good beers. Quite a good range of chain stores and niche smaller shops. Really like its compactness and easy train ride from Brussels. Visit Hasselt tourist centre is about 50m from our hotel Het Menneke. Hasselt Greeters offer free personal introduction to Hasselt. The Japanese Garden, the largest in Europe, is well worth a visit. Best restaurant we found was de Orangerie, sited in a long atrium. Nice menu includes Flemish favourites. Attentive staff. There’s just enough to do here for an overnight stay - two nights might be pushing it. The flea market (Sunday) is great and there are enough high quality museums to keep you busy. Hasselt is a really interesting visit.
Hasselt is a really interesting visit. Its a small city centre that you can walk around with ease. Clean and very modern. Heavily pedestrianised so easy to get around on foot. Has a bit of an 'upmarket Brighton' feel about it. We liked it. Good for a long weekend visit (but no more). Its not cheap to eat out in Hasselt but there is a huge amount of choice. We struggled to choose restaurants (wish we had eaten in the Orangery, as setting was lovely). People seemed very affluent and well dressed. Lots of shops. We stayed for the Plopsa Indoor attraction, which we thought was very good. Our hotel was about a 20 minute walk from the city centre to the venue (the reviews suggest parking there is expensive). Attraction great for the kids and, even though summer, was surprisingly quiet. One word of advice, don't eat there. Its over priced and terrible.Guest review byStuartUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Tongeren is a very clean village. The people are always very kind and courteous. We enjoy eating at the different restaurants. They have a gelato shop with plenty flavors. If you want a great selection of wines, then Vinotel is the place for you! The Grand Place is quant with a beautiful Cathedral. Most things are within walking distance.
