Great accommodation! From the terrace you have a spectacular view of the water. Here we saw seals and sea otters. I still got pasta with chicken even though we arrived late in the evening. We also got a better room for free. The owner was incredibly friendly. It was a great stay. Greetings from Germany

I loved the room with all its coziness and outdoor deck with blankies. I so appreciated all the comfort from the owners as well. I was grieving and they took their personal time to acknowledge that and comfort and pray for me. I shall be forever grateful. Thx ever so much.

Port Hardy is a seaport and connection point to the ferry service to more northern islands and coastal communities along BC's coast all the way to Prince Rupert. It is small, Indigenous-run community that has considerable services and courteous and competent staff at each point of service we experienced.

A quiet, laid back atmosphere. Not much to do with limited options for eating or getting a coffee especially Sundays and Mondays. Enjoyed visit but a couple of days was enough. Food at Nimpkish Hotel was good and people were very friendly

    My highlights / activities:

My highlights / activities: Ferry (with my suv) to Sointula Island - and the orca rubbing beach (no whales tho). Skip the ferry to Alert Bay unless you are ONLY interested in First Nations exhibits (woman at that Tourist Office was rude and demanding !!) Easy drive to Telegraph Cove and Port Alice

It was quaint and peaceful. No restaurants or pubs. Bring some food. Rest can be purchased at the small co-op. Coffee shop for tea or coffee and breakfast if you wish is most excellent and affordable. We loved how little there was to do, we walked and biked all around taking pictures and chilling. Everyone was friendly. Beautiful sunsets.

Port Alice is beautiful to visit in the summer, especially if you bring a boat. Fishing is excellent nearby and the marina has a good boat launch and moorage with parking. The grocery was a good size and had a good selection of meat and produce. This town of 800 is right on the sheltered ocean It's quiet and very scenic -- perfect for walking, especially on the 'Seawalk.' It's simple, remote and yet very attractive.

Port Hardy is central to many hiking trails and booking boat trips. Lots of good restaurants. I just wish that it would be possible to book half days fishing trips (only full days were available which is not ideal if you are afraid of the sea or this is your first boat trip).

Visiting Alert Bay and the Umista Cultural Centre is a must-do for any BC resident. the history and story of the Kwawakuwak (spelt better) is important and the community and island are beautiful. Don't forget Culture Shock on the dock - a great shoppe with local artisan's work and amazing folks who run it. the giftshoppe at Umista is also wonderful... had great food @ pemba's kitchen and also the Bayside Inn Cafe for breakfast... go hiking, go explore - it's amazing

We stayed in Port Mc Neill for 3 nights and used it as a base for seeing sights outside of the location. We caught a ferry across to Alert Bay and the journey was totally hassle free. It was easy to leave the car at our accommodation and board as foot passengers. We also visited Port Alice, Telegraph Cove and local areas.

Life in Sointula is as people should live.

Life in Sointula is as people should live. Chickens squawking, sheep bleating and no one gets upset if they have to wait a few seconds to pass a narrowing in the road for "traffic" - meaning a car - to clear. Anyone with an appreciation for "quirky" personalization, artisanship and meticulously kept yards well adorned with flowers will love Sointula. You are never away from nature, either the forest or the sea here.

This little town has a very good groove: everyone is saying hallo, the coffee shop opens at 6 am with very tasty musffins and scones and the people are very helpful. There are some tourist sites here, but life seems to go on just normal. At the south end there is a nice little camping site and it is said, that two friendly bears regularly visit the town. We didn't see them but we saw bald eagles, a deer, seals and on a fishing trip otters, and humpback wales. If you like the quiet life in a natural surrounding, don't miss Port Alice.
