Upon arrival we received a welcome drink and an upgrade to a better room. It was better and spacious for us. The room was always clean and tidy. We even received a voucher for lunch or dinner. That was really kind of the hotel. The hotel is located in Bocagrande , there are a lot of restaurants and shops. It’s save to walk around and have a nice lunch or buying souvenirs. Breakfast was good. Several kind of bread, scrambled eggs, Cornflakes etc.

Vanessa, Jeison and Daisy were fast friends and really made our stay perfect!!! ❤️ And the dogs!!! If you’re an animal love you’ll have no shortage of amazing new friends. Absolutely fell in love with every single 4-legged baby I met! 🐶 Also pursuant to other reviews that we read before arriving… Yes, there is sand. It’s the beach. Wash your feet off by the pool before going to your room and your room will be sand-free. Seemed obvious to us, but worth mentioning based on past reviews. There is no hot water, but who would want it anyhow?! Showers are lukewarm which is perfect after a day at the hot beach. There is some trash in the ocean, but find me an ocean that doesn’t have its share of waste. Miami, San Diego, Costa Rica… they all have trash. But Fenix staff were doing their best to pickup what they can, but like anywhere in the world, more comes with every high tide. Enjoy the island life, and let go of your expectations. if you do, you’ll have the time of your life! ⚡️

This is one of the best boutique hotels I have ever stayed in (and I have travelled a lot all over the world). We kayaked around the island and visited other small islands - this is definitely the best place we saw. 1) The privacy of the amazing beach, and only 3 rooms which gives you space but also an opportunity to connect with other travelers 2) You can snorkel with plankton right on the back side of the property at the mangrove 3) The owner is the nicest lady and runs the place perfect! Agree with all her choices. Very homey. 4) Free paddle board and kayak 5) Amazing food! 6) Lots of hang out areas 7) The owner can organize trips to the other islands Mucura and Islote for you.

Wonderful facility with great saltwater swiming pool. Perfect place to relax with children; not all places on the island are suitable for young kids and this is an exception, we had a 7-year old and it was wonderful. You have access to the pool and the beach. Exceptionally good food and service; we thought the food selection was amazing. We appreciated how simple they made the transport, including picking us up from our accommodation in Cartagena and organizing everything for the boat ride that is included in the price of the hotel. Organize staff keeps the place very clean.

Nice city with an interesting historical centre and the coloured popular area of Getzemani; the Spanish city walls which protect the centre have a nice walk path "ronda. Nice restaurants and roof top terraces. the Castillo is a masterpiece to not miss and the subset from its top an amazing experience.

You can’t beat the price & the beach is beautiful.

You can’t beat the price & the beach is beautiful. The people were great & friendly. However I would bring mosquito spray & ear plugs bc if you get the room next to a generator it will drive you crazy. The best room is with the balcony so you could enjoy the sound of the waves & beautiful view, it’s definitely worth the extra money. Food & drinks were good. Take the taxi & boat suggested.

Surprisingly interesting.

Surprisingly interesting. We took a flora and fauna boat tour which was lovely. Weekends come alive with visitors, week days are quiet. Café 1700 is the best food in town, you can sit in a rocking chair under a fan watching the river flowers by and birds and iguanas playing.

The staff, location and room were excellent. Staff went out of the way to help and guide. We booked a car through the hotel for pickup and drop off to Cartagena and the car service (Carlos the driver was awesome and very helpful and punctual). We had a medical emergency and the staff were super helpful to guide and help arrange transportation to the nearest city. Highly recommend. Water pressure at the hotel at times can be an issue (beyond the control of the property), which is to be expected. The staff informed us of low water pressure times and were very helpful in providing a bucket to store water for shower if needed during low pressure times.

Hotels are pretty isolated, so you may not go to another restaurant in case you don't like yours. The beach on the 'more popular' part are facing the industry harbour and the rafinery, which impede the experience.

Keep in mind that not all hotels have beaches, even though they do have access to the sea. Also remember that walking from one place of the island to another is not possible due to the mangrove, so most of the time you will need to take a boat, which usually is provided by the hotel at a cost. This is a place to relax under the sun, swim in the sea, eat delicious food, and do some low intensity activities like paddle board or snorkeling. It is not a place to explore the surroundings, have long hikes, or party

Nice island, no mass tourisme. However there is dirty everywhere, there is no environmental respect or educaiton around the locals and some tourists. Pieces of garbage all over when going for a walk in the island. A fully respectful hotel I recommend : Ecohouse ! The worst one in terms of service : WIJI, don't go there, over expensive and the rudest staff and worst service I've ever had.

Baru is not a lonely remote place where you will enjoy peace and quiet. Hotels and lodges are literally next to each other. There are many people. When swimming, be careful of boats and jet skis that drive here and there very close to the shore. But the sun and the sea make all that unimportant. There are also various excursion options.

Pretty pueblo, but, oh, so sweltering hot. The view of the river is non existent from the place in which i stayed as the municipality is conducting repairs to the river bank. This has been going on from September i understand.
