FAQs about hotels in Bavaria
Romantic Region of Castles and Christmas Markets
Home to some of the world’s oldest and finest Christmas markets, Bavaria is the German region touching Lake Constance and the Austrian and Czech borders. Although evoking images of beer, lederhosen and fairytale castles, it’s much, much more than that.
Famous for Oktoberfest, its capital Munich has impressive architecture lining squares and parks, and several luxury Bavaria hotels on Booking.com. To the north, Nuremberg is a city of 2 halves: a picture-postcard old town and grandiose Nazi rally grounds housing a sensitive museum.
With a stately palace and gardens, Erlangen is on the Regnitz River which continues to beautiful Bamberg where one of the half-timbered buildings hovers above the flowing river. Bayreuth is well-known for opera performances of Wagner, a former resident, while Regensburg on the Danube River has a beautiful, medieval centre.
Unsurprisingly, most romantic Bavaria hotels are on the Romantic Road between Würzburg, with its hilltop castle, and Füssen in the foothills of the Alps. Neighbouring Hohenschwangau has 2 royal castles, one of which – Neuschwanstein – inspired the Disney castle. Oberammergau has frescoed façades and hosts a 10-yearly Passion Play, and nearby Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a top German ski resort, with Tyrolean-style houses overlooked by Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain.
Back on the Romantic Road, Augsburg has colourful buildings, and Rothenburg ob der Tauber is like stepping back in time.

Munich is a lovely city.
Munich is a lovely city. The architecture and atmosphere met my expectations. I did an all day tour of Linderhof Palace, Neuschwanstein Castle and Hohenschwangau, it was like walking though a beautiful painting. I was visiting during Oktoberfest which you have to see to believe, it was amazing and the beer was wonderful. The classic and modern art museums are next to each other and have exceptional exhibits. I highly recommend a visit to Munich.Guest review byKatUnited States - 8.0
Center of Nuremberg was almost leveled in WW2.
Center of Nuremberg was almost leveled in WW2. The postwar reconstruction of buildings mostly created replacement buildings in a bland style, though the street layout remained. The churches were very well restored. I liked nearby Bamberg better on a day trip from Nuremberg. (45 minutes by Regional Bahn train.)Guest review byRichardUnited States - 10.0

The history available through the museums, historic buildings, and art galleries is extraordinary. The confectionary shops add a wonderful addition to a cup of coffee. Beers from 3X different breweries made this a good tasting experience.Guest review byJamesUnited Kingdom - 10.0

A very interesting historical city, much of which has been lovingly restored after devastating air raid damage in WW2. The Residence I(and its gardens) are well worth visiting, being a smaller scale version of the palaces at Versailles and Charlottenburg. Don't miss the Hofkirche while there. The Marienberg Fortress on the hill overlooking the town offers fantastic views, but is currently being extensively refurbished. It is still worth visiting though. And if you like visiting churches, you will not be disappointed here. Fantastic cuisine and wine available here. we can heartily recommend Aifach Resins and zum Stachel, the former for more contemporary cuisine and the latter for more traditional fare in traditional and historic surroundings.Guest review byDavidUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Our highlight was a visit to Schloss Seehof which we reached by bus, using the Bamberg card. Really informative guided tour of the restored interior of the castle and the gardens including an impressive water cascade were impressive.Guest review bySandraGermany - 10.0

The first thing I noticed upon arriving in Ingolstadt is the cleanliness of the area from the moment I stepped off the train. I had travelled from Cologne through Berlin, Dresden and Nurnberg, stopping a view nights in each place, and Ingolstadt was the best ‘first impression’ of a city I experienced. This continued throughout the 3 days I spent there. The train station is located in a leafy area next to a beautiful park and surrounded by 3 churches. The city has numerous walkways and cycle routes alongside the river and through beautiful gardens. The city is extremely peaceful and had beautiful architecture and many historic buildings and sights. You will find good coffee shops and some of the best traditional food dishes in Germany. I LOVED this place and can’t wait to return.Guest review byRitaIreland - 10.0
We’ve been there before and always enjoy visiting.
We’ve been there before and always enjoy visiting. It’s a beautiful and historic medieval town that is protected by a double ring of fortifications upon which you can walk. Not far from the Frankfurt airport. Incredible views, great restaurants and shopping. In a word: MAGICAL! And the food of this region in Germany is fantastic!Guest review byTHOMASUnited States - 10.0

This is one of those towns you need to keep coming back to. We love GP for a weekend getaway. We always ride the train in and get around by foot (or bus) after we're there. Go in every season...there's always something wonderful to experience.Guest review bynivmanGermany
