Some of the most important historic buildings in Potsdam have lately been rebuilt, so now is the time to visit. About the size of Cambridge in the UK, the city used to be the seat of the Kings and Queens of Prussia, and is chock full of historic building and palaces and parks to the point of surfeit. It's very easy to get around with local trams, and sits on the confluence of several beautiful lakes. It is also on the Berlin suburban and regional train network, of course. A clean and attractive city, with lots to see and a very pleasant ambience. Outside of the obvious attractions like the Sanssouci Palace, there are hidden gems dotted within a 20 minute walk out of the centre. There are myriad places to eat and the transport options are excellent. It is also a great base from which to explore Berlin. It is worth buying a "Berlin Welcome Card" in advance of the trip as this gets rid of wasting time with individual transport tickets as well as providing discounts on attractions.Guest review bystephenUnited Kingdom
