I spent one day with a group tour around the city: caves, panoramic tour by bus, historical part and I loved it! I stayed in a lively area where on Sunday families were playing sports, listening to music, eating out and I loved it, The food is very affordable. Finally, I went by myself to the museums in the historical part again: Catedral la Primada, Ambar museum, Larimar museum. Sad, overpriced and not very nice. A lot of rubbish everywhere. No local culture. Beaches were poor. Theres a view of a large powerstation from the beach. No good food available apart from ridiculously overpriced top-end restaurants. Very shabby and disappointing overall. I only used this as a 2 nights stop whilst waiting for a rearranged flight home. Booked it very late and got great reception and response from host to get me the keys and and settle in. Close to the airport (5 minute taxi ride) There's a supermarket within 10 minutes walk with ATM's and obviously anything you need for shopping. I didn't look around the area any further. The flat was fairly clean with basic amenities and if i needed to wait over again for a flight the i would definetly consider using this host again.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

I'd take a pass on traveling to Santo Domingo again, I've traveled to a lot of developing countries, but this city is the worst capital in Latin America. Nice city with so many changes in the years I've been. A bit annoying to deal with the vendors who seem to come every 5 minutes. Also watch out for the locals who try and get you to sit down and eat . They will mark up the prices of the food to make money off of you . The colonial Zone of Santo Domingo is stunning, with a lot of Museums, A beautiful Cathedral, a very active nightlife, cafes, restaurants a so much. Perfect for walking and relaxing, very Bohemian vibe. Recomendations: Mosquito bar, La casa del ron with a stunning view of the Cathedral and Sabina with a very bohemian style. If you want a more modern vibe then stay in the Piantini district, With a lot of modern bars, restaurants like Sarah and a lot roof top around the city. and a very cosmopolitan vibe, however, be aware that the traffic is chaotic and stressful during peak hours. Boca chica is a nice place to stay however you have to be careful with the host of these properties they're not all trustworthy.
