FAQs about hotels in Andalucía

Pulsating with History and Tradition

Resounding with flamenco, the fabulous Spanish region of Andalusia (or Andalucía) has world-class attractions, wonderful scenery and welcoming beaches.

Some of the best Andalusia hotels are in Costa del Sol resorts including Nerja and glitzy Marbella, neighbour of exclusive Puerto Banús. Nearby is Málaga, Picasso’s city with relics of its Roman past.

Moorish influences have also left magnificent marks. Formerly a mosque, the incredible Córdoba Mezquita is now a cathedral. Against the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada mountains, the Alhambra is a former sultans’ residence looking down on lovely Granada, home to some romantic Andalucia hotels and apartments on Booking.com.

You can ski in the Sierra Nevada, and also in mountains by Aracena north of Seville, the region’s sun-drenched capital with a gigantic Gothic cathedral and amazing architecture in Plaza de España. It also has a ring where controversial bullfighting occurs.

Its nearest beaches are on the Costa de la Luz, between Isla Canela (by Portugal) and Tarifa. Nearby is Algeciras, across the bay from Gibraltar. Other popular Andalusia beaches are in Costa de Almería resorts including Roquetas de Mar and Mojacar.

Inland, on a steep escarpment, Arcos de la Frontera, is one of the White Villages of Andalusia. Nearby is Jerez, home of sherry. To the east is Ronda with its high bridge spanning a deep gorge.

Our room (suite, sea-facing, corner room)was exceptional. Plenty of room for two people (two bathrooms, plus a full bath), sofas, balcony with lounger and table and chairs) which could accommodate a family with two children (probably not four adults comfortably). The bed and bed linens were very comfortable. A generous 3 bottles of water were left each day. The hotel (built in 2012) was vivid with light (a contrast to the historic paradors we had stayed in during our trip). Excellent wi-fi. Pools were clean and well-managed. Hotel was professionally managed in all respects, particularly the breakfast buffet service, run by the excellent Breakfast Service manager. Attention to detail in all aspects of the hotel made for a very enjoyable stay - e.g. thin nylon lines had been run from the hotel high across the pools, hardly visible, but this prevented seagull interference. Some other reviews have suggested the hotel was looking tired - I disagree, both the common areas are clean and well-maintained, and our room was immaculate.

Great resort! The facilities on the property are great. The staff are absolutely incredible, they are super efficient and very friendly. The pool is amazing and quite big considering how busy it gets. We chose the room with the pool and sea view which is best located for a great view of the sunset. We also booked the full board option which is great option as the meals are quite expensive.

Such a beautiful city!!

Such a beautiful city!! very walkable, so many hidden cool places all over the streets. Great people, the christmas decorations were so so nice. it's super safe to walk by yourself. the river in the middle is a great place to read or to sunbath. it has amazing food, places like Plaza España that are insanely beautiful. The weather in winter is amazing if you want some warm sun and to escape from the rest of the European cold winter. The ice cream shops were so good, you could also find so many options for any type of food. There is this hidden part near plaza de las naranjas, a narrow street that takes you to some small streets that are super quiet and surround the Alcazar

Malaga bars restaurants are too tourist orientated to poor quality food as opposed as to how use to be. No free tapas with drinks. Food overall is over 80% poor quality as opposed to other destinations in Spain, which is shame as Andalucia is meant to be exceptional food but I believe restaurant owners got greedy.

This was our second stay in Granada, we arrived by car on Christmas Day and spent 3 nights there. We managed to do a day trip to Sierra Nevada and being blessed with beautiful weather, Granada itself was very lively, with people everywhere; many of the shops, bars and restaurants were open. There are things we still want to do and we will definitely be back for a 3rd visit. We returned to a lovely little Italian restaurant Divino, great food at reasonable prices.

Often missed by tourists who flock instead to Sevilla and Granada, Córdoba is definitely worth at least a 2-night stay. It feels more Spanish somehow. The Mezquita (mosque cathedral) is so unique and beautiful, and rivals most historic buildings we have seen in 30+ years of international travel! If you stay in the old quarter, it is easy to walk to most sites, restaurants, shops, plazas, and the river.

Beautiful city but the old town is perfect for sightseeing,...

Beautiful city but the old town is perfect for sightseeing, walking around the cobbled streets and enjoying traditional sherry tasting and tapas. I would highly recommend the Tabanco El Pasaje bar. It is very small and quirky with a very warm welcome with fantastic authentic flamenco every day - do not miss this. I would also recommend Las Banderillas for an authentic Spanish bar with a warm welcome for sherry and tapas. Unfortunatley, I would not recommend La kastiza. We went to eat on a weekend night, we found a table outside - yes it was exceptionally busy but numerous Spanish customers were seated after us and they were served before us so we decided to leave and eat elswhere. The dancing horses at the equestrian school were breathtaking. A good few hours walking around the house, museum, stables where you can interact with some of the horses and of course the show! Tio Pepe is another must, fantastic guide and you learn a lot about the history of Tio Pepe and how they make the different flavours. The autograph museum is brilliant & the shop prices are actually really good value. If you want to hire a motorbike or moped, I would highly recommend GCBIKERENTAL - very modern bikes at a reasonable price and the owners are very nice and helpful. It is only approximately a 20 minute drive from Jerez airport to the old town and to the Circuito de Jerez from the old town it is also only approximately 20 minutes. If you like culture, tapas, sherry and winter sun - this is the place to visit.

Marbella was very nice apart from the weather ofcourse due to the time of year , the people were friendly and the Xmas decorations were fantastic unlike puerto banus which looked shut with the amount of bars that were closed and virtually no sign of any Christmas activity, the tapas bars and restaurants in Marbella were very cosywith the outside heaters on and the atmosphere was first class I would enjoy both Marbella and puerto banus in the spring/summer period but in December there is only one winner and that was Marbella

Benalmadena has two distinct areas, the (playa) beach/marina/seafront shops with lots of bars and restaurants, and an inland town area (pueblo), which is a half hour uphill walk or a short, cheap taxi ride away. The pueblo also has the train station for trains to Malaga and other resorts, so we were able to leave our car in the hotel parking.
