FAQs about hotels in Galicia
Historic and Holy
A region of lush landscapes, countless coves and beautiful beaches, Galicia is the westernmost part of Spain. Long admired, it boasts incredible reminders of its first settlers – the Romans.
Lugo is the world’s only city entirely surrounded by Roman walls, and quite a sight they are. On a rocky promontory in A Coruña, the Tower of Hercules is a working Roman lighthouse. Considered the world’s oldest, it overlooks one of the region’s ‘rias altas’ – coastal inlets flanked by high cliffs.
Sheltered in another inlet is the port of Ferrol, and Viveiro around the coast has a lovely beach nestled below green hills. Another sandy beach protected by zig-zag cliffs is Ribadeo, on the Asturias border.
The most famous Galicia attraction is the capital Santiago de Compostela whose huge cathedral, firmly on the pilgrim route, is Christianity’s 3rd most important. Unsurprisingly, the city has the most 5-star Galicia hotels on Booking.com, though it’s smaller than Vigo which has a replica of the ship that reported America’s discovery.
The castle in nearby Baiona overlooks a beach, and Pontevedra slopes down to the sea. The undulating coastline continues to O Grove, known for beautiful beaches and hot springs. Thermal waters are also in Ourense, near the stunning Sil River Canyon in the hilly interior, home to most small hotels in Galicia.

- From US$193.89 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 1,627 reviewsThis is an excellent hotel which is ideally located on one of the central gardens and within a few minutes walk of the old down and waterfront. All staff were very attentive and could not have been more helpful. We enjoyed the rooftop pool and spa treatment on level 1 noting that additional costs apply to both of these. The bar fridge contained a range of drinks and snacks at reasonable prices. This was a case of you get what you pay for and represented very good value for the facilities and service provided.Guest review byMalcolmAustralia
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 2,706 reviewsWe enjoyed our short stay at this outstanding hotel. The location is right on the water, the spa was terrific, the outdoor pool too, and parking was easy. The rooms were large and comfortable. The price is very reasonable. Breakfast was very very plentiful and one of the best we've encountered in our many hotel stays throughout Europe. We highly recommend this hotel. We also loved seeing the church covered with scallop shells. The island itself is also charming.Guest review byJamieUnited States

Amazing place.
Amazing place. The destination for the Camino de Santiago and it didn’t disappoint. From the food, our stay at the Seminario Minor, to the main attraction of the Cathedral, is was wonderful. More than a visit, the pilgrimage is life changing.Guest review byNoblesUnited States - 6.0

Bus transport in this town we struggled with, so we ended up hiring a car. Trains are very good. We definitely stayed too long, there is not a lot to do here. The beaches we did get to see were lovely, wished we stayed near a beach rather than town.Guest review byLesley HarveyUnited Kingdom - 10

Pretty city with lovely river walks and the old town was gorgeous. Beautiful churches and basilicas which were free to visit. The restaurants were excellent and a wide range of cuisines. It was a bit hectic driving around town and parking on the street was difficult. However, there were many inexpensive carparks available. The people were friendly and learning a little Spanish before visiting this region, will go a long way.Guest review byBelindaAustralia - 10
A Coruna was perfect for a 4 night holiday.
A Coruna was perfect for a 4 night holiday. We enjoyed exploring the town and coast by foot from our appartment on 2 days. On our third day we took the train to Santiago de Compostela for a very worthwhile day-trip. The cathedral there is stunning. There were plenty of bars and restaurants within easy walking distance from our appartment.Guest review byGuyUnited Kingdom - 10
I was pleased with my time in Arzua. I was tired.
I was pleased with my time in Arzua. I was tired. It was a long hard walk with a 40 lb pack on my back, so reaching Arzua and having a clean comfortable bed with a private bathroom and the promise of a hearty breakfast the next morning was a bonus. Also I learned that I could have someone courier my back pack to my next destination was a very welcome piece of news.Guest review byPamelaCanada - 8.0
The lodging is very new and quite easy to stay in.
The lodging is very new and quite easy to stay in. The beds were comfortable, it was a safe area. The kitchen was decent, the air conditioning worked well (important during this stay as it was hot in CdR). It seemed to be quiet so getting a good nights rest was easy. There are dining amenities very close and there is also a produce market if you are inclined to make your own food! The wifi was a little dodgy at times. We used the washing machine and the clothes drying rack which made our stay there very productive.Guest review byJohnUnited States - 10

We just spent one night in Padron and were fortunate to be there during the Pascua de Padron. Aside from the must-see sights, we were also able to immerse ourselves with the Padron townsfolk during the festive celebration of the Pascua de Padron. Must see sights are the Convento del Carmen which will give one a good hilltop view of Padron. Should also visit the Iglesia de Santiago where you will find the "Pedron" or mooring stone, believed to be stone where the boat carrying the remains of St James (Santiago) was tied to.Guest review byEarl StanleyPhilippines - 8.0

O Pedrouzo is a small town on the way to El Camino De Compostela. We only needed to stay one night and that was enough. I'm not sure if there were much to do in town. We tried two restaurants El Bule and Galaicos that serve traditional Galician food. Prices were fair and food was good.Guest review byJuan - 10

It was amazing to arrive in Portomarin and dip my feet in the river. It was the best foot spa experience I have ever had. Great spot to rest when walking the Camino from Sarria. There was a couple of people singing and playing a guitar under a bridge and that made the whole experience even more romantic.Guest review byMaryIreland
