A Land Of Limestone And Turquoise

Situated in a south-east part of France, the Gorges du Verdon region offers easy access to the French Riviera, as well as some jewels of its own. Its biggest, the Verdon Gorge, is a real natural wonder and one of Europe’s most mesmerising river canyons.

There you can enjoy climbing large limestone walls, some of which reach 700 metres high allowing you to admire the stunning, turquoise-coloured waters of the River Verdon below. The area offers more than 1,500 climbing routes and hiking trails, plus some great fly fishing and canoeing opportunities.

Gorges du Verdon is just a short drive from the beaches and boulevards of Nice, Saint Tropez and Cannes, and you pass plenty of picturesque towns and villages on your way. Amongst these are Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, clinging a hundred metres up the limestone cliff and a typical Provençal village of Fayence.

Make sure you visit a lovely town of Gréoux-les-Bains and the nearby Lake Esparon. From there you can easily reach the most popular lake of the region, the colour-changing Lake of Sainte-Croix.

Gorges du Verdon is part of the beautiful region of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and is very popular with tourists thanks to its great location and easy accessibility.     Just like the pictures, everything was perfect It was not busy and calm. We rented a electric grill and had a bbq on the terrace with the view and it was amazing. If you are driving up from verdon gorge, the driving up is quite hard but from the accommodation to the nearest town isn’t bad and close by. I would definitely recommend and come back for longer stays The cabin was big enough for two but would be quite small for 4 adults

    Everything! The pool was amazing, the facilities were beautiful, and the grounds were peaceful and spotless. Our accommodation was top quality — quiet, tranquil, and perfect for a relaxing break. We loved that we could bring our dog, and the parking was super easy. The staff were warm and helpful, and we felt completely looked after. We originally booked one week… and stayed for two. That says it all!

    This was one of our top places in Provence.

    This was one of our top places in Provence. Not only is the village in a spectacular setting but it is a very charming place. We hired ebikes for 2 days from ebikesmoustier and had a fabulous time cycling on gravel tracks and small roads around Verdon. It is also a great place to locate yourself as it is not far from the boat/kayak hire on the Verdon Gorge. We visited in October and had fabulous weather. The Autumn colours were wonderful too.

    This is a nice, typical small town of the South of France. When we were there, it was the open air market, it was quite packed with tourists. We would have probably enjoyed the town itself more with less people, but at the same time it was a great atmosphere.

    This is a nice little town with a range of shops bars and restaurants. It has a very large spa in it. The river and small gardens are very picturesque. Loads of walks from the Town and really good cycling country. It is quite a way from the main Verdon Gorge but there are some lovely smaller gorges nearby. I would go back to explore further in cooler weather.

    Ideally situated close to Gorges du Verdon and the lavender fields. You have a bus that can take you to the departure site for the hike and take you back at the end of the canyon (after 6 hours one way). In the city centre you have lots of options for restaurants, shops and local artisans.

    Very charming location and wonderful lake views. No doubt much busier in high season but we liked it very much. The owners were just charming and very kindly fed us a delicious dinner and breakfast even though the restaurant was technically closed.

    It's a castle! As my American wife said over and over!

    It's a castle! As my American wife said over and over! It's a stunning location and quite unique. The evening food and service was amazing and the lovely breakfast overlooking the surroundings on the terrace was unforgettable. All the staff were attentive & hospitable and I would definitely come back here. Only issue was the spotty Wifi but for one night, we took a break and enjoyed this unique place.

    Beautiful town with everything at your fingertips. I didn't visit surrounding places during my visit but there are plenty within easy driving distance. A month later and the lavender fields would have been in full bloom but in May I had great weather, good hikes and less people than in June. May was pretty busy. Dozens of good restaurants, cafes and bars and shops galore.
