From the moment we arrived to our departure, the staff was extremely warm and friendly. The hotel is perfectly located on the harbor and we had a splendid view of the harbor from our windows. The room was elegantly decorated and very comfortable, including the terrific mattress for a good night's sleep. It had a nice sitting area for reading and watching the news. The bathroom was large and supplied with Chopard amenities. The adjacent restaurant George's serves a very nice breakfast and a wonderful dinner.

What a lovely warm welcome! Perfect location! Beautiful room, facilities and garden! Would love to return to use the pool and have breakfast on the patio. Loved the breakfast too. The staff, ambience, design, facilities, all set in a beautiful location was tranquil and beautifully planted with well chosen furnishings inside and out. Having spa facilities was perfect and we had some lovely relaxing, luxurious treatments. Our room looked out towards the water which felt very calm and we could hear the sounds of the sea. We loved the steam room and salt water indoor and outdoor pools were lovely and warm with water jets.

    To visit the island a car or bicycle is very useful although there is a bus service. Many other interesting villages to visit on the island. Plenty of good restaurants particularly away from the main tourist areas.

    For convenience to the airport and La Rochelle, this was an ideal location in which to stay on Île de Ré. In September it was already a bit sleepy but the bicycle paths and public transport ensured that it's easy to see other towns and the city too. Be aware that public transport from La Rochelle finishes early on weekdays after the summer peak.

    Sainte Marie de Re is very quiet with not many shops or restaurants. There is a Carrefour supermarket and a small market daily. A lot of places were close early which meant we had to travel to St Martin de re , La Flotte or Bois de Plage to eat .

    Even though La Flotte doesn’t have the broad sandy beaches like those on the other side of the island, it has a delightful village atmosphere and an abundance of restaurants and bars. La Flotte is connected to the rest of the island by the free shuttle bus, the 150 bus from La Rochelle, or as is very popular, by bicycle. There are many dedicated cycle paths and the island is flat. St. Martin is nominally the central point of Ile de Re and the arrival port for the ferry from La Rochelle. La Flotte is 10 minutes away by shuttle or bus. Dining in La Flotte I highly recommend Chez Nous Comme Chez Vous, for excellent cuisine.

    The village is a bit far from everything so you have to drive around. Two beautiful beaches within 20 minutes. My favourite place on Ile de Ré actually is Ars-en-Ré, a lovely quaint village with its whitewashed streets, its unique church, cascading flowers (jasmine!) everywhere, charming shops (cheaper and not as touristy as in Saint-Martin) and nice restaurants.

    At the end of the season - mid September it was not too busy...

    At the end of the season - mid September it was not too busy but had plenty of restaurants to choose from. We had our dog with us so appreciated the walking areas around St Martin although the beaches are not available to the dogs. We loved the beach restaurant at Cible but you need to reserve by SMS. Fantastic fish! Also liked La Flotte, Arse en Re and Bois Plage. We drove and walked but the cycle paths are abundant but so are the cyclists!

    I would stay here again as the location was great, the pool...

    I would stay here again as the location was great, the pool was lovely and the room was nice. However the staff need to get up to scratch. The reception staff need to speak a little English, the cleaning staff are good at cleaning but I had to ask for toilet paper, shower gel and tea and coffee to be replenished every day. The restaurant was expensive and I couldn't find anything on the menu I liked. I am not fussy and in fact I am a chef - the staff were friendly but the restaurant closed between 4 & 5 so that the staff could have a break - and closed completely on Tuesday - not what I would expect from any hotel.
