We normally stay in St Andrews when on a short break in the area. Carnoustie golf Hotel is more than a match for most St Andrews hotels. The town on the other hand is a long way short when it comes to restaurants and shops compared with St Andrews. If you are staying 1 or 2 nights then I would definitely recommend Carnoustie golf Hotel.Guest review byGerrUnited Kingdom - 10
Lots of things for kids to do.
Lots of things for kids to do. Travelled with my 4 year old and he had a great time. Good choice of supermarkets for self catering. Decent options for eating out also. Lots of nice places to walk and the town centre has a few good shops (especially Charity shops which I love a rummage in)Guest review bytracyUnited Kingdom - 10

We were only there for one night on the way from Aberdeen to Edinburgh but golfing in Aberdeen and Monifieth. It was a Monday and therefore restaurants weren’t open as you’d expect although I’m sure it would be better around the weekend.Guest review byMalcolmUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Royal Hotel evening meals were superb but there was a fantastic Indian restaurant and other takeaways nearby plus several cafes. Walking is probably the best way to get around as there are interesting things hiding in alleyways, the Museum is worth a visit as is Glamis Castle nearby. Excellent bus services to Dundee and Aberdeen (both ULEZ's cars need to be Euro6) one is expensive (Stagecoach!) I think! the other which unfortunately I can't remember the name of is very cheap. Worth checking online for entry tickets as we saved nearly £10 each on Glamis tour. Be careful parking as the wardens are red hot, Hotel parking best option. Odd one way system in places.Guest review byMalcolm - 6.0

Room was perfect size for family, bathroom has leak beside shower causing mold /rotten wood. Room does get a lot of noise from business above. I was unaware I hadn't preordered breakfast as I received an email day before asking me what time slot i wished but when check in was told no breakfast available as more rooms than tables for breakfast available. Was offered 9.30am breakfast downstairs on first day but second day we were refused far from ideal for a family with children to be told to wait til 10am when public breakfast area opens! We actually had 3 rooms booked for 2 nights but only one room got breakfast stress free . Please consider making breakfast in your larger area rather than refusing families breakfast.Guest review byOmoniyi - 10

Edzell is a beautiful place to stay, most people were friendly and helpful. The bedroom was adequate and although quite small was nice and comfortable.the shower was not great and very poor and the toilet would not flush properly without having to refill the cistern. The auto lights in the very dark hall did not come on unless we walked way past our room so kind of pointless for us. The breakfast room is in need of soft music or something as all we could hear was other people eating with their mouths open, this was not enjoyable. The bar also is in need of some music in the evening anything really to give it some life.Guest review byHeatherUnited Kingdom - 4.0

Stayed there , about six years ago , and was very pleased , unfortunately , the owner passed away , and whoever it is that is now running the establishment need to be trained in people management , his attitude is disgraceful. Definitely won’t be recommending this hillside hotel to anyone I know .Guest review byDianeUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Arbroath is a nice coastal town, good size for walking around all the main areas. Main shopping street a bit tired with lots of closed shops, but enough coffee, bars and restaurants. We used the Wetherspoons a few times which is always good value for money, and The Old Brewhouse at the harbour was a good sized hearty meal in small but nice restaurant/bar. The Signal Tower Museum is worth a visit for history on the Bell Rock Lighthouse. We walked the coastal path north, my husband walked about 11 miles to Lunan Bay, signposts were ok, but skirting around farms and small villages was long, but interesting. Montrose is also good for a visit, especially for bird watchers around the tidal basin and coastal rivers. All around is excellent area to explore and walk, we had good dry weather which is always a bonus.Guest review byHilaryUnited Kingdom
