FAQs about hotels in Cornwall
The Stuff of Legends
Inhabited since prehistory, Cornwall is characterised by a series by rocky bays, fishing villages and spectacular coastline. Right at England’s western tip is Land’s End where sheer cliffs descend into the Atlantic Ocean. Along the coast is popular St Ives, home to many Cornwall hotels by the sea on Booking.com.
Another fantastic beach resort is Penzance, while across the bay is St Michael’s Mount (not to be confused with similar Mont St-Michel in Normandy). Also boasting a wonderful beach is Newquay, though it is best known for its excellent surfing conditions.
Further north is Tintagel, the stuff of legends due to its association with King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. The remains of Tintagel Castle are perched dramatically on a rocky promontory, while inland on Bodmin Moor granite tors and stone monoliths only add to Cornwall’s feeling of mystery.
Heading north towards Bude the Cornwall beaches become longer, while on the southern coast Looe is a picturesque town curving around an inlet. To the east near St Austell is the Eden Project, huge domes housing thousands of plants from all over the world.
The county town of Cornwall is Truro, home to an impressive cathedral overlooking the River Fal which flows down to Falmouth Bay, a great spot to try some local Cornish ice cream.

- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.5Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 73 reviewsAs the Americans say, “what’s not to like?”. I was fortunate enough to stay in The Forte Suite, with floor space larger than my little cottage near Sydney! Sooo comfortable. Loved the ambience, the food, that setting. A special shout-out to our waiter at lunch and dinner, Ricardo, and the restaurant manager ( sadly I don’t know her name) consummate professionals both. Coming from Australia, where pet-friendly places are slowly appearing, what a joy for me to see them welcomed on the terrace and some rooms. My friend and dog stayed in the Garden Room. Wonderful decor and immense outdoor space. If you are planning a visit, don’t hesitate. You will not be disappointed. Thank you, Tresanton.Guest review byCarolAustralia
- From US$206.22 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.9Good - What previous guests thought, 2,793 reviewsWe stayed in room 301 on the top floor, great views, bed and pillows were comfortable, the bathroom was good, good pressure in the shower and I had a bath every night. Steve, a friendly seagull, came by our window every morning for some food which we gave him. Dinner was very good. We had Venison, and breakfast was excellent also. The elevator lift was very fast, no waiting at all, and we had plenty of space to park our car. The owner came by to see if we were OK at dinner and to say goodbye when we were leaving. So very Hood experience all round.Guest review byNigel MarshallSpain
- From US$226.18 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.3Very good - What previous guests thought, 1,488 reviewsThe hotel is very uniqueky decorated, looking like the interior of a cruise ship, and the room furnishings matches the vibe - that was a really nice surprise! The view from the breakfast terrace was absolutely breathtaking, we actually spent so long at breakfast because we were enjoying the food and the view so much. The fitness centre with complimentary sauna, swimming pool and jacuzzi was also a great experience, we could get our feet wet and enjoy the vacation even on the days when the weather outside was too windy to swim at sea.Guest review byAndreaItaly

The view from our room was absolutely beautiful, enhancing our stay even further. Both breakfast and dinner were top-notch, with a great selection of delicious options. Additionally, the availability of parking, a spa, and a swimming pool made our stay convenient and relaxing. Highly recommend for a memorable getaway!Guest review byDzmitryLithuania

The beaches and coastal walks were stunning.
The beaches and coastal walks were stunning. The town is easily navigated on foot with some decent bars and restaurants- but has a bit of a rough edge at times / places. Wetherspoons (Towan Blistra) was great value for food / drinks. Trenance Gardens and lake (free) is a lovely amenity and well worth a visit. We opted to spend all of our 6 nights in Newquay and used a hire car to visit other places. On reflection about two nights there would have been enough and a few more nights at St Ives / Penzance / Falmouth, etc would have been better.Guest review byvincentIreland - 10.0

Interesting independant shops, great places to eat )vegetarian and vegan(, lovely beach and close distance to other interesting seaside towns. We enjoyed the live music venues and the young buzz of the town against the background of historical interest. The maritime museum, the castle and great places for children to run around .... if we had any with us!! A late night Tesco express was also very convenient!Guest review byjaneUnited Kingdom - 10.0

The sea water lido on the shore, with a geothermal section was a big hit with us. We enjoyed walking along the promendate and watching the variable sea, sometimes crashing against the formidable sea wall. Our main attraction for choosing Penzance was the ferry to St Marys, Isles of Scilly, which is doable as a day trip. The ferry port is at the end of the promendate, easily accessible. There are good bus services to various destinations in the area, such as Mousehole and St Ives.Guest review byEleanorUnited Kingdom - 10.0

St Ives has a lovely relaxed atmosphere, on the beaches and in the town. There are plenty of places to eat - all you have to do is walk along the front to find somewhere, and there are lots of interesting little shops and art galleries. Finding your way around the town can be a little confusing because of all the winding little streets, but that is part of its charm. You can go on to the South-West Coast Path in either direction out of the town, but be prepared for some up and down sections the further you go. If you are travelling by train, a popular little branch line takes you from St Erth to St Ives. Check the weather forecast in advance and go prepared with layers of clothing. .A wonderful place to relax, in spite of its popularity. Wonderful light and views. My fellow traveller said, "Don't often feel sad about leaving somewhere" and that about sums it up.Guest review byGwendolineUnited Kingdom - 8.0

St. Austell is a working town not really a vacation destination. But it has excellent transport facilities - bus and train to all the major Cornwall attractions and is perfect for the Eden Project. I couldn’t find a Tescos or similar.Guest review byColinUnited Kingdom - 6.0

Apart from the cathedral there was not much else . We had based ourselves in Truro to visit Tresillik National Trust which in spite of being in great location was rather dissappointing having visited Lanhydrock earlier in the day which was superb. The house in Tressilick was very limited and appeared to be mainly used in lieu of the more usual excellent NT restaurant.Guest review byRogerUnited Kingdom - 8.0

We love Padstow and have visited several times over the years. Bear in mind that it is actually very small and can get intolerably over-crowded in high season. We went in late September this year and it was still very busy. It's extremely pretty but not cheap to eat or shop thereGuest review byJaneUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Looe is an unspoilt gem of Cornwall, where you feel relaxed & 'in the holiday mood!' It has a very interesting 'Heritage Centre' & 'Information Center'. The Bude canal walk with our dog was great, and the varied shops in Bude were excellent as were the eating places in and around Bude. Widemouth is worth a visit - not far away - we had an excellent meal at the Bay View Inn and saw the sunset from thereGuest review byTerryUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Tintagel is a magical place to visit.
Tintagel is a magical place to visit. Lots of little shops and places to eat. We enjoyed having a coffee at the Camelot Castle Hotel with beautiful views of the sea and the moors. Also King Arthur’s Castle can be seen and people walking over the bridge to it. We would like to have walked over the bridge but we were advised that the walk is long and steep and not suitable for unsteady walkers.Guest review byDavidUnited Kingdom
