I love old charming hotels, and the Victoria royal definitely is one. When I say charming, I mean that it is not renovated to dead but kept as original as possible. An extra 11th point I would give to the receptionist , working at the of our check-in, who did everything possible, to get back our Mobilefone which dropped in the backseat of a taxi….just outstanding.

Hastings was an interesting town.

Hastings was an interesting town. We enjoyed the old part of the town and the funicular railway lifts, as well as the smugglers' caves, which were a must see! There were many good bars and restaurants. The nearby towns of Battle and Rye were also well worth a visit and easily visited using local buses.

Lewes is very good as a place to stay if you are interested in history or just like browsing local shops. It also has excellent railway connections so you can get to Brighton, Hastings, Eastbourne and up into Sussex by public transport. It is hilly and a good base if you want to explore the South Downs by walking. A good range of restaurants, pubs and cafes too.

The spa was very well apportioned and it was very quiet and secluded. The staff throughout the hotel were extremely pleasant. One thing they must do in the restaurant is ensure that the wine ordered has arrived and ready to drink before the food is served. It is not good form to serve the food without the wine bottle even being at the table, let alone not opened.
