This hotel was exceptional in everyway. Quiet, large room, comfortable king sized bed and the sound of the stream through the windows was so tranquil. Staff so friendly and helpful. From the beautiful cooked breakfast to the scones and clotted cream every afternoon it just felt like home. Lots of walks from the beautiful Grasmere village. Jump on the bus if you wish to many places. Good restaurants nearby to walk to and tea rooms at the door. Just so relaxing this place. Lots of parking. Great outdoor and indoor space to relax with complimentary beverages. We will be back one day.

The hosts were lovely and accommodating. The room we stayed in was spacious but still cosy and it was incredibly clean. The breakfast was delicious. Bacon cooked perfectly! The location was amazing. FAQs about hotels in Lake District

Poetic Artistry at its Best

The inspiration behind many a poet, the serene Lake District has majestic peaks and glorious lakes that form the UK’s largest and most visited national park.

A particular favourite of Wordsworth, Windermere is England’s longest lake and her waters are still plied by historic boats. With a range of luxury Lake District hotels and a Beatrix Potter Museum, the town is connected by cable-operated car ferry to a spot close to Near Sawrey where Miss Potter once lived. Near the lake’s northern tip is popular Ambleside, home of the Stock Ghyll Force waterfall.

A road goes north from here past picturesque Grasmere and Thirlmere lake to Keswick. Set by Derwent Water, this pretty town is overlooked by Skiddaw, while Scafell Pike – England’s highest mountain – is to its south-west. Bassenthwaite lake is north-west, and Glenridding to the east is on the shores of the popular sailing spot of Ullswater, watched over by Helvellyn.

In the Southern Lakes, Coniston is a small village by a lake offering watersports. South-west is the port town of Barrow-in-Furness, and also by the sea is Grange-over-Sands with its long promenade. Kendal is known for its tasty mint cake and has a museum of Lakeland life, as well as a good range of Lake District hotels with pools on Booking.com.

A great room plus luxurious bathroom including a huge walk-in shower plus separate bath, the layout of this converted barn was well thought out, and the facilities were top-notch. Very friendly staff and owners. The car battery failed, and the owners kindly came to pick us up from where we were stranded. Just around the corner of Wasdale, with one of the best hiking options and dramatic scenery to be found in Lake District/England. Would recommend.

The area was mostly fine.

The area was mostly fine. In some areas the town was looking tired. Absence of any visible street cleaning. We must have passed an area where someone had let their dog foul the pavement at least eight times as we walked up and down to our guest house and back down towards the lake I know it’s individual dog owners where the responsibility lies but even so it’s a big tourist area So one would expect a bit more pride in the area Unfortunately we won’t be rushing back to visit

Ambleside is a honey trap, necessary to help with the millions of tourists visiting the lake district just like keswick, windermere etc. There is peace and quiet to be found quite easily outside but do not expect it in the town. Ambleside is now busy 12 months of the year. Traffic is a pain and parking is in short supply. There are good eating places - not all at tourist prices - and more shops selling outdoor gear than you can shake a stick at

Overall, we had a lovely and relaxing family stay at Sunnyside Farm. The cozy rooms, spacious kitchen with a dining table, and the convenience of a washer and dryer made our stay very comfortable. The living area was perfect for families, with puzzles and board games to keep the kids happy, and the host was welcoming and helpful throughout. The peaceful countryside setting, surrounded by farms, added to the charm. Although a few small improvements such as having the requested travel cot ready, a slightly bigger TV, and faster Wi-Fi would be nice, they didn’t affect our overall experience. It’s a great place for a quiet family getaway, and we would happily return.
