Dinner was on Saturday night at the bar. Superb food, good value for what it was, well served in a vibrant atmosphere. Breakfast was served in a glass walled extension to the old building, by numerous staff and chosen from a varied menu and cooked to perfection.Guest review byVincentJersey

As we were embarking on a cruise I cannot really comment on Grays Thurrock as we didnt spend any time there. The Lakeside shopping centre offered a wide range of shopping and eating facilities and it is very close to the cruise port on the right side of the river.Guest review byJanetUnited Kingdom - 2.0

I had a very disappointing experience at the Royal Hotel in Purfleet. Upon arrival, the front desk staff took a photocopy of my photo ID and asked me to check in online while I was already at the property, requesting that I enter my bank details as part of the process. I found this request extremely excessive and felt very uncomfortable sharing such sensitive information, especially considering the condition of the hotel. The room I was given (Room 41, downstairs) had a strong, damp smell, and the bathroom had drainage issues; the water wouldn't go down properly. The overall cleanliness and condition of the place were unacceptable. Given the poor state of the room and the intrusive information requests, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, not even my enemies. Collecting personal and financial information this way, particularly for a place in such disrepair, is completely unreasonable.Guest review byAnonymous - 8.0
Very comfortable , great location .
Very comfortable , great location . The buffet breakfast was not good . I asked why they had changed from table service and was told that this was due to the large number of guests staying that night . Thank goodness this was only a temporary arrangement .Guest review byCliveUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Lovely village, good location for travelling, plenty of car-parking, good bar & restaurant, excellent choices of food, beers and wines. Quiet. Modern rooms and bathrooms with some lovely quirky designs. Looks ideal for larger party numbers too. Perfect as a base or as an overnight if travelling on through Essex, Canvey or Tilbury.Guest review byDBP64United Kingdom - 2.0
Worst experience of staying anywhere.
Worst experience of staying anywhere. The room was dirty and had damp everywhere. There was a bottle of lube left in the wardrobe. Chips in the drawer. The shower was freezing and there was no pressure. The window didn't close as the man that worked there said it was broken. I had a tummy ache so we called the number we were given. It said they were available til 11pm. I asked for a toilet roll. The man came, holding a toilet roll and said "mam why are you using so much toilet roll. You already had one" The toilet roll I was given was the cheapest you can get and there wasn't a lot on it. My partner said "yeah sorry I was ill". He said "how dare you disturb me, I have finished for the night, everyone has checked in already" My partner said "I apologise do you not work here?" He said "no my dad owns the place" We explained that we are on the M25 and it would be difficult to go get some from the shop and his response was "you are white and richer than me so should buy your own" We asked his name and he said Ali and his dad owns the place and he doesn't care about us. We went in our room and went to sleep. I was so tired. If you want a racist Indian fawlty towers then this is the place. If you go here please take your own everything. Smoke alarm hanging off the ceiling, lock didn't work. Never go here.Guest review byHayleyUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Stifford is an affluent suburb of Grays, access via a private road. Walking takes about about 15-20 minutes from Grays railway station. Unfortunately some of the streets are not shown on Google street view and the house number search was wrong on the satellite view. So travellers need to research in advance or email the host. There is a wildlife reserve nearby and different exotic birds can be heard flying overhead.Guest review byDX7United Kingdom - 2.0

"It was good enough for me for a couple of days with a nice view by the river, friendly staff. The shops and restaurants are on-site. Good, free overnight parking. Near lakeside shopping, near the outlet mall. Good location, good price. Just for a good night's sleep is sufficient. I am definitely coming back. Never discouraged by the review."Guest review bySukonthaUnited Kingdom - 4.0

Let’s start from pluses- it’s a free parking in front of the house, the house is big enough and has big garden, it’s a good wi-if, big TW, and house is warm. Minuses- the house is really dirty, looks like they didn’t clean. Bathroom is dirty and not enough of towels, shower is broken, and water is coming calls or hot. on the kitchen they didn’t leave any towels at all. In the house you will receive the instructions “ if you don’t need the light turn off”. And that’s really sad, to tell guests what to do. This house need a big cleaning and to improve customer service.Guest review byAnonymous - 6.0
