I was in Athens 40 years ago and little has changed.
I was in Athens 40 years ago and little has changed. I have travelled most of Greece and everything then and now seems to be a new experience for any information persons ie how do I get to Olympia? If you can put up with the total lack of help, lack of simple information from information persons, taxi drivers who at every turn feel it is necessary to rip people off then come to Greece. Use Uber! Did the tour from Athens to Meteora which was a long day but great. Greece works on Greek time which can be 30 mins to 1 hour difference with departures! No sidewalks to speak off so be careful when walking or moving with a suitcase. Food cheaper than other European countries. Rafina îs a nice place to stay if you eat to be close to the airport . We spent 2 nites and hired a car . This means you can drive to Rafina ( an EASY 25 min drive ) and the next day we drove back to the airport to take the tram into Monastraki Athens to go to Plaka etc and back to the airport ( 9Euro each way ) .This way no parking issues in Athens . In terms of location, it's a bit complicated to get to the apartment, but we found it after a few minutes of walking. The owner of the apartment is nice, the bed is nice, the room is decorated in a beautiful antique vintage, the balcony is large with a beautiful view of the forest. I booked a room for one night just for myself. I stayed in room 24 and it was perfect. I recommend the downloading of WhatsApp, because this lodge is staffed remotely. After two great weeks visiting the islands I found Athens a bit of a let down. Graffiti everywhere. Also not used to people smoking everywhere. Not allowed in my country.
