A Cultural Crossroad
Birthplace of the father of medicine, Hippocrates, Kos is the 3rd largest island of the Dodecanese. Located in the south Aegean region, this green island has a temperate climate, palm tree-lined avenues, and crystalline blue waters, all accessible by bike.
Featuring a great selection of 5-star hotels and all inclusive resorts, Kos is a tourist and cultural gem with long hours of sunshine and intense nightlife. Kardamena is a popular resort for young holidaymakers, offering a large number of bars and nightclubs.
Founded in 366 BC, Kos Town is home of the imposing medieval Castle of the Knights of Saint John. The traditional village of Afsendiou is a stunning paradise with narrow alleys and spring waters. Another must-see is the picturesque village of Antimachia, with the Venetian castle and the original windmills.
Kefalos village is home of one of the most magnificent Kos beaches, as well as the iconic small island of Kastri. If you are travelling with kids, do not miss Tigaki, a long sandy beach with shallow waters and sun loungers. Savour fresh fish in Mastichari, while enjoying the majestic view of the port.

The staff is exceptional: from the kind and helpful ladies at the reception (Soteria, Katarina) to the fantastic activity program yoga, Pilates, beach volley, aqua gym and tennis by Sophia, Parthenia and lady from Lausanne and the kids club was great with Effy and the girls with the funny name(s) according to our daughter. Service in restaurants: the staff was correct and enough to deal with the high amount of people, all did their best and made contact with the guests. Food: plenty of choice for vegetarians and vegans. It was nice to be able to have also additional food choices on the beach like pizza, gyro pita and near pools: ice cream and pancakes. Evening program was nice with possibility to go to other hotels for different shows. Also pleasant open air fitness area and salty water pools! There is a possibility to go to the bus stop opposite the hotel and take the bus to Kos city. The foam dino during the last days of our stay was such a good idea! The kids loved it. The gardens are lovingly landscaped and very well maintained. The pool areas are spacious and invite you to relax. There are plenty of loungers and even “chilled” seating options where you can sit with your feet in the water in the bar area. To get to the beach you have to cross a street. However, it is hardly used. This side of Kos is a bit windy. You can see beautiful water waves and hear the wonderful sound of the sea. Mastichari is lovely!
Mastichari is lovely! It is a chilled Greek village beside a beach with a small terminal for ferries to / from Kalymnos, and a bus stop that will get you to Kos town or the airport. There is a nice variety of tavernas for traditional Greek food, and a handful of bars. Prices in Mastichari are much cheaper than in Kos town! There are a selection of shops that sell a mixture of groceries, booze, and souvenirs. If you need a big supermarket, head up the hill out of the village and you will come to Constantinos, which has everything you need. There's also plenty of places to hire cars etc. The beach is right beside the village. It is very chilled. There are no noisy bars churning out loud music, or noisy motorised watersports. There are some sunbeds, but the beach is not dominated by them. Most of the holiday makers we saw were, like us, middle aged or older (this is not a criticism!). If you are younger and / or want a lively nightlife, this village may not be for you. Everything is fairly flat (unless you go up that big hill above the village), but you will need to tackle a step or two to get into shops and tavernas. Flight from ATH (Aegean Air) very good. With luggage in-hand, we got in-line for a taxi to take us to lodging. Terrible experience. Must have been 35++ people in-line, A few taxis came initially. Wait was over 30 minutes. Standing in sun. It took a long time to get a taxi. Way to long. First impression of Kos, very poor. Then, our taxi driver could not find our lodging in the Kefalos area (think this was a rare event, as our lodging was NOT on the taxi drivers GPS display...???). Finally used Google Maps and that worked. Trip was off to poor start and never got better. Disappointed in Kos ground transportation. Have traveled a good number of the Greek Islands. It's a very small town, there isn't much to see or do.
It's a very small town, there isn't much to see or do. You can pretty much walk in two directions. But Tigaki is close, there's a bit more variety of restaurants and bars and cafes. The beach in Marmari is perfect though! And it's very safe and quiet. I would recommend renting a car anyway, because there's not much else to do and you will be more flexible that way. When we arrived at Villa Milan we were overwhelmed by the countryside location, the large pool and the sea views. It was so easy to relax there, but it was also in close proximity to the water park, beaches, shops and restaurants. We had a hired car and went out every day to explore the island, which is not large, so we covered a lot, and the roads are quiet. The villa had everything we needed and more; spacious rooms, tv, wifi, well equipped kitchen, bbq, air con, fans... and so on. As a family of 5, we really did have a fantastic week here, swimming in the pool and at beaches, the waterpark close by, exploring and of course eating lots of lovely local food. Loved walking around in the city center and having lunch here during the day, but we mostly had dinner along the beach. Lots of things to see, many boat trips (3 Island Trip with the Oddysey and Nisyros trip highly recommended). Beach: We loved going to Tarzan and using their sunbeds. Kardamaina is a lovely small port with an interesting mix of accommodation. Think small beach areas and friendly tavernas. Lots to see and do, with excellent choices of quiet beaches, if you have a car. Or great boat trips to islands like Nisyros or Kalymnos.Guest review byLuciUnited Kingdom
