Ben, who spoke many different languages, greeted us and started us off with an espresso while taking us up to this amazing hilltop view overlooking the ocean and the wonderful city of Lipari. His introduction of the hotel was well planned, noting the countless ammendities and services offered by the hotel. If you need to rent a scooter, car, boat excursion, or make dinner reservations(with free shuttle), they do it all right at the resort. Ben went the extra mile to surprise my wife with a large bouquet of Lillies for the room to help celebrate our wedding anniversary. Breakfast was served on a terrace overlooking the city with amazing food and staff to attend to your needs. If you just want to relax, there is an infinity pool at the top of the resort with breathtaking views and outstanding food and drink service. The walk into town is about 10 minutes or a taxi can quickly be arranged by the hotel if needed . The port is close and allows for spontaneous ferries for island hopping, but we found Lipari to be our favorite. We closed our trip at the restaurant Al Panorama, overlooking the island of Vulcano at sunset. The view from here can not be beaten, and the hotel provided a free shuttle here as well. All of the staff at the resort were very helpful and courteous, making lasting memories for 2 Americans on their first trip to Europe. I would definitely ask for the same apartment next time and would definitely come back. Everything about the apartment was exceptional. The kitchen opened up onto a covered terrace overlooking other parts of the property tucked against a rocky limestone hillside. The house blended in beautifully with the natural surroundings. The owners created a short stairway up from the patio to a small terrace overlooking the town and the sea that was perfect for sunset! About 1 km away was a steep trail down to a beach you can only reach by foot or by boat. Possibly one of the nicest rocky coves on the island with gorgeous colored Cliff faces. Original 1950s charm, right down to a working working old-fashioned telephone booth inside. The lobby is beautiful with wood and green tones. The breakfast space is perfect; a veranda-type setup that feels half inside/half outside, fitting for either a sunny day or inclement weather. The included breakfast itself is a great value for the price of the room; you can have either the typical Italian "colazione" of your choice of cafe/cornetto/succo (coffee/pastry/juice), or also a more "northern European" style of eggs, cheese and a selection of meats (or both!). I was there for personal reasons but also worked a bit and the WiFi was great. The rooms are charming; not huge but with everything you need. Just rent snorkel, goggles and fins at the dive shop for 5 euro each. We saw an octopus and many other fish. The pool is beautiful and relaxing. The city and island are treasures.
The city and island are treasures. We visited all recommended sites on the island, as well as the islands of Salina and Vulcano. Lipari is an excellent place as a base to visit all of the Eolian Islands. Bad weather prevented us from seeing the other four islands, so we wish we could have stayed a few more days. Lipari is really a great destination.
Lipari is really a great destination. The town is cool and is a great jumping off point to visit the other islands. For sure to visit Panaera an especially Stromboli by night. Bring you bathing suit. Lots of cool beaches even though many are rock. Strongly recommend going after the main tourist season. People are nice and the food and drink spectacular. Visit the castle for incredible Mediteranian history. The only downside is getting there and coming back.
