The Tabino Hotel in the central part of Sado Island is a very modern, very well-equipped and conveniently located business hotel. There is no charge for on-site parking, and we didn't have any trouble finding a space. Check-in was straightforward. Our room was well-equipped for bathing, sleeping, etc. There's a refrigerator in the room. Nice features of the hotel included a public bath (like an onsen) that was sometimes completely unoccupied, and that had all the various sorts of lotions, treatments, etc. that my wife likes to use; she said that she didn't need to bring anything down from our room because the bath was so well-furnished. There are also coin washers/dryers that include detergent, so that you can do your laundry on-site. There's available cold drinking water (in summer) so that you're not fussing with luke-warm tap water. There's an on-site restaurant that gets good reviews. There's a gas station, a grocery store, and the local hospital across the street. Would definitely stay here again. Nice place.

Beautifully appointed with everything you needed to be self-sufficient. A traditional design with everything modern convenience. Great accessibility for those with particular mobility or accessibility needs. In a very peaceful location with lots of natural beauty and close to Toki-No-Mori for viewing the Japanese crested ibis up close.

The rooms were clean and spacious. It was comfortable with airco and renovated modern bathroom. You will be welcomed by a super lovely gentle Akita dog called Sun. We participated in the morning ritual of Shingon Buddhism at the temple. The service is basically in Japanese but I'm sure it will be an unforgettable experience even if you don't understand the language. They kindly explained the essence of Shingon teaching and how this temple stay was established. After the ritual, we had Buddhist breakfast together. It is located in a small community with a view of rice fields and green mountains. If you wish to stay in a unique quiet place in Sado and to get in touch with the local people, this is the perfect place to stay.

The host is very friendly and welcoming. We were lead to the hotel directly from where we parked. The room we stayed is called "Kura" with an ancient storage design integrated with the room. The breakfast is great with local ingredients and a beautiful bento carrier. The host also helped us to book dinner and make changes for our ferry tickets.

This once grand hotel is now a little tired but still a great place to stay. We had a family room Japanese style overlooking the lake. The bath house inside was well equipped and large, but looked very pink like a 1970's hairdressers. The outside bath on the roof, only open during the hours when the inside bath was closed, was more basic but fun to be outdoors watching the birds on the thermals above us. They still have local dancers to entertain guests each evening. It was an opportunity to see some cultural activities that were specific to Sado Island. The breakfast was in a small dining room overlooking the lake. I think the bus tour guests ate in a larger dining room as there were only a few people in ours. The food was local and excellent, and each dish was explained to us by staff. It varied each day.

This island is such a gem! It is forestedd beside the ocean. For people looking to experience rural Japan, hiking, kayaking and old homes, this place is perfect. We will be back for sure! I can’t recommend it enough!
