We pre-booked breakfast, which was mostly Japanese style buffet, although a small selection of croissant and cereal available. Pre-booked dinner was Fabulous! Hotpot & DIY BBQ style meat with soups and veggies each night. Different variations for each of the 3 nights we were there. Definitely recommend pre-booking meals as nowhere close/easy to go. Staff - AMAZING. Even with small amount of English - very easy to communicate. Ski/clothing/gloves/helmet hire very easy to access in hotel but quite dated, although fine for 2-3 days of skiing. We had to buy lift tickets across the road at lift ticketing office, which was simple. Onsen absolutely fabulous. Beautiful shampoos/conditioner etc provided. Robes available in hallway shelves, along with help yourself green tea at any time. Bus stop 1 minute walk away. Great family hotel.

Location was great and staff was really helpful. I got the meal package and it was great. Delicious breakfasts and dinners and really affordable if you prebook with your room booking. The communal meals are also a great spot to meet other travelers if you’re travelling alone.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Kodama during our family skiing trip in Japan, and it was truly an exceptional experience. The hotel's location was absolutely perfect—practically ski-in, ski-out, which made it incredibly convenient for our family of four, especially with young children in tow. We could easily access the slopes without any hassle. One of the highlights of our stay was the free parking, which eased our travel worries and allowed us to enjoy day trips without the usual parking stress. The staff at the hotel were incredibly helpful and went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed throughout our stay. Their friendliness and attentiveness made a significant difference in our overall experience. We opted for the half-board meal plan, which included both breakfast and dinner. The dining experience was delightful; the dinner service was a sit-down affair featuring three types of protein each night, expertly prepared and beautifully presented. This was a refreshing change from the buffet-style meals that many other ski hotels seem to offer, allowing us to enjoy quality time together at the table. The rooms were in good condition and provided a cozy retreat after a long day on the slopes. They were spacious enough for our family, and we appreciated the comfort and cleanliness during our stay. Overall, Kodama offered a fantastic skiing experience complemented by excellent service, convenient amenities, and delicious dining options. We would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a family-friendly ski hotel in Japan. We can’t wait to return!

I never experienced such VIP service otherwise in the world. Whole reception teams demonstrated what extraordinary service should be. I arrived late by bus and was welcomed by one receptionist in bus stop. so I did not need to carry my luggage in the snowing road. They even opened the ski rental shop for me after working hour. The next morning, I missed public shuttle bus and they offered to use hotel shuttle bus to drive me over to ski lift in Yakebitaiyama without reservation in advance. I felt that I was living with a lot of friends instead of living in hotel. I was too tired to try the bar at night, and I would like to try it next time. Swimming pool was good with quite warm water. Hot bathing place with best view. Sun rising over snow mountain top. Breakfast was very good with many variations. The dinner I ordered was pork hotpot, and personally I think the starter tasted better and pork meat is okay. I will try something else next time. All in all, the service and room condition are all top.

Quite frankly, I’d like to move in permanently. Our room was huge, well-furnished and with extremely comfortable futons. Plenty of wardrobe space as well which we’ve found a rarity in Japanese accommodation. The private toilet, wash basin and shower are all in separate areas so it’s easy for different occupants of the room to be doing different things. Lovely yukata and happi coats provided for the stay. We had half board and the evening meal was outstanding with multiple dishes, all beautifully presented. Breakfast was good as well with a few western-style dishes alongside the Japanese ones. Plus there are onsens for guest use including an outdoor one that was just bliss in the chilly evening. I haven’t mentioned the staff. Unfailingly courteous and helpful and most of the ones we met were kind enough to speak excellent English. We stayed in October, outside the ski season, and thought it phenomenally good value. I would really love to be able to stay again.

The room was much bigger than I anticipated, and in a Japanese style (with tatami) so I was pleasantly surprised. The onsen in the hotel was an absolute delight. It had several baths with different temperatures, a lounge space, a sauna, a cold bath (which can be rare), and of course everything needed to wash yourself thoroughly before going into the baths. The hotel also provides body towels as well as face towels, so you don't need to bring yours. They have lockers to keep your items safe while bathing. There's free breakfast (little pieces of bread + some juice and coffee/tea) and a space on the first floor to relax after the onsen for example. It has wifi there as well.

Excellent hotel with onsen. The open air onsen is the best one. Nice welcoming hosts. Quite neighborhood. Super close to train station and bus station, and convenience store. When checking out, I noticed that there a lot of souvenirs from guests from different countries, so bring one from your country when visiting :) If you want to visit snow monkey park, best time is in winter, otherwise the chances of seeing the monkey are low (we saw only one in late October)

Amazing ryokan just 15-20 minutes walk from Yukanada station. Right next to Shibu Onsen district with heaps of eateries around. We walked to the snow monkey park from here - it took about an hour. There is also a shuttle service. The staff were extremely helpful and kind to us. We rented the private onsen and it was worth every dollar.

Great little town as a base for seeing the amazing snow monkeys. The walk to the monkeys was very pleasant (but it is advisable to wear wellingtons as it is very mucky). There are many small Ryokans in the town - sadly all of varying standards. Our recommended one was Tsuyuru Ryokan. Great little place run by the amazing Yoko.
