The proprietress of the ryokan was super friendly. The breakfasts and dinners were an amazing way to start and end the day. The ryokan is near the vine bridge and once you exit the ryokan, you see the lush greenery of Iya valley. The toilet was very clean, and the room was comfortable.

We really love the Wakka, stayed here before and planning to come back. Wonderful and peaceful location, a great place to relax after the bike ride. Local hot springs spa nearby, which can be visited free of charge - great for soothing tired muscles. There is else muscle massage gun available on request at Wakka. We really enjoyed our evening BBQ and beautiful views of the bridge and islands. Wakka staff are extremely helpful and made our stay very enjoyable.

The interior's clean and beautiful, I was so impressed that despite having an extremely long journey to get to Mima City, I still found myself run around the place to take photos. In addition to that, the staff here were extremely helpful and attentive. They helped me with everything, from arranging and communicating with the taxi driver, providing breakfast even when I check out early, giving advices about places that I want to visit to helping me with the booking of new flight ticket when my flight got cancelled out of nowhere. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

The customer service and attention to detail were the outstanding. Honestly this is the best hotel I have ever been (and I am well traveled) the staff were super nice and they listened and went the extra mile to make our stay the best we ever experienced. They gave us excellent food and took their time to ask if we didn’t like anything so they could provide food to our liking but it was already great food! The onsen upstairs is gorgeous with an amazing view of the mountains and the Japanese style room is excellent. This hotel deserve more stars! We did drive from Osaka and it was 200% worth the trip. I only have good words to describe this place. Don’t hesitate and book it. We left with a warm heart. There are also nice things to do in the area like the scarecrow village and adventure park.

This place was incredible and such a reasonable price. Beautiful reception area and building in general, friendly staff, and the room was compact but not too small. Great fun having a 12th floor room! Breakfast was extensive Japanese-style, including local speciality sea bream dishes, and some Western-style offerings of yoghurt, compote, eggs, bacon, bread rolls, pastry etc. Location is great- tram stop just outside, only a flat 25 minute walk to the castle ropeway or 20 minute tram to Dogo Onsen. Parking is first come first served but is right next door, and staff validate your ticket for 1000 yen/day (rather than the normal rate of 200 yen/hour). Also self-serve laundry is available for 300 yen/load, plus dryers at 100 yen/30 minutes.

Hotel is about 5 minutes walk to JR station, very easy to find the way. We are cycling at Shimanami-Kaidou, the hotel is a good starting point. Hotel lobby inside has bike parking facilities. Receptionists are friendly and helpful. Onsen is big and clean. Staff at onsen are also very friendly too! Room is clean and big which have bridge view outside. Good restaurants near the hotel.

Sakaide Grand Hotel is a large hotel near the harbour area of Sakaide. The hotel - as well as most of Sakaide itself - has a bit of Showa-romance felling. The rooms are largend the breakfast is great! There is a public bath on the third floor, but upon arriving you may be given a ticket for the nearby large public bath, where most of the towns people seem to go in the evening.

For an older hotel, I really had a very pleasant stay. Rooms have everything you need, bed was comfortable. Staff gracefully allowed me to stow my luggage, and the breakfast buffet was impressive. Very close to the tram line that will take you to the train stations or Dogo Onsen. Many restaurants nearby as well.

Tokushima is a nice and vibrant city, that gets the most of its hype during the great Awa Odori Matsuri, held in mid August. If the temperatures are too hot for you, you can still see Awa Odori performances all year around. From Tokushima is also easy to reach Naruto, with its famous whirlpools.

A small town set in a valley surrounded by steep forested mountains and a majestic river Gateway to Iya Valley and other stunning sights. No shortage of top class food options and bars (particularly Casual Bar for great fun and karaoke and Cafe Addcolor). And the locals are some of the very nicest and generous people I have met. Takamatsu is a regional town on Shikoku Island in Japan. It is quite relaxed and has everything that you may look for in big cities. Shikoku Island is one of the main 4 Islands of Japan. It is good to reach by train, bus and even by airplane. It has an old history and boasts of many traditional handicrafts, regional specialties (such as udon noodles), etc. Always worth a visit - even if it is in the rainy season.

The Best part about Matsuyama was where we stayed.

The Best part about Matsuyama was where we stayed. It was Ryokan Kominka Mitsuhama, and it was detailed by a true artist. You have 2 floors of space with the bedroom upstairs and a large living room downstairs. The living room is surrounded by 2 different mature and well lit Japanese gardens. One had many Koi swimming in the ponds. So lovely! It was in a quiet, low key neighborhood but just 2 blocks to the river and near a little working fisherman's bay. The boats were squid fisherman with lights strung on them because they fish at night with the lights to attract the squid. There were plenty of small local restaurants and bakeries. It was a respite from tourist crowds and off the beaten path.

We were there for two days, which felt a bit short. The castle is a must-see, if only for the view from the top, of the city with mountains in the background. The Sunday Market is also a must, if you're there on the weekend. The small Science Museum near the castle was fun and very hands on, mainly for kids but also a nice detour for adults. We also found a Back to the Future DeLorean in the Automobile Museum, which was a nice surprise. Katsuo (bonito) is famous in Kochi, it's flame cooked a little on the outside but still raw on the inside and pretty tasty.
