The most professional service we've encountered on our Laos travels. On arrival, we got a lift by the owner from the boat to guesthouse and received a warm welcome. The room was just spectacular - grand view of Mekong from the balcony (sunrise over the river definitely worth waking up a little earlier!), large bed and bathroom and the best toilet we've encountered in all Laos. The guesthouse has a restaurant serving delicious Lao, Asian and Western meals and staff was very helpfull and friendly. In addition, the town of Champassak is so nice, clean and green - a pleasant change after Vientiane, Pakse etc. If you're visiting this area, Nakorn Guesthouse is highly recommended!

We spent 3 nights in this unique hotel and it was a truly wonderful experience. We were enchanted by the minimalist architecture with traditional decorations and a beautiful view of the Mekong River. Spacious and modern apartments. Every morning before breakfast, we cooled off in the pool and relaxed in the cozy hotel restaurant with delicious food. Free bicycles are available to guests to reach the village and the temple. The hotel also offers tuktuk, boat transfers and bus tickets to other parts of the country. Really good place to take some rest during long trip.

This place is run by one of the most hospitality friendly guy we ever met, his name is Wadu.....and he takes care of everything. You can ask him every question you have and he sort it out for you. The hotel is very clean and has a nice pool to cool of after a hot day. Also you can pay with several cards and need no piles of cash for you stay. The only minor thing is that the location is a bit far from the center but every evening they provide a free ride to the center and back to the hotel. We can stronly reconmend this place in Pakse.

Tina is the best host you could expect. I was first looking at cheaper options but when I saw all of the positive comments on her guesthouse, I didn't hesitate, and I did the right choice! The place is comfortable, well located, Tina will gladly have a chat with you, cook for you and help you plan your expeditions around Pakse, in Laos and internationally. I definitely recommend!

My visit to the Don Det Hotel was exceptional, offering a level of welcome and care that is truly rare. While the location offers the relaxed island vibe one expects from Laos, it is the people running this establishment who truly make it a wonderful experience. The defining feature of this hotel is undoubtedly the presence of Andy. From the moment I arrived, his **warmth and approachability** made me feel less like a customer and more like a welcomed guest. Andy possesses a rare ability to connect with travelers, offering genuine conversation and invaluable local advice that significantly enhanced my trip. He is constantly present and attentive, ensuring that every aspect of the stay runs smoothly. His dedication creates an atmosphere that is both professional and incredibly personal, making it hard to leave when the trip comes to an end. Complementing Andy’s leadership is a staff team. The service here is marked by a level of attentiveness and care that stands out on the island. * Genuine Kindness: Every interaction is met with a smile, and the staff handles requests with efficiency and grace. * Seamless Operations: Whether ordering food or arranging transport, the staff executes their duties flawlessly, allowing guests to fully relax. A Comfortable Island Retreat Beyond the service, the hotel itself offers a clean and comfortable sanctuary. The combination of the stunning river views makes it the ideal base for exploring Don Det. It is rare to find such a well-run establishment. I cannot recommend the Don Det Hotel highly enough. If you are looking for a place where you will be treated with genuine care and outstanding service, look no further than Andy and his wonderful team.

This was our third stay at la Folie Lodge over the last 10 years. I think management would be hard pushed to find more enthusiastic guests. It is a wonderful place and, located on an island in the Mekong, is quite literally out of this world. The entire experience is simply superlative. The rooms are lovely, the vista from the balcony over the river to the sacred mountain of Vat Phu inspiring, the pool immaculate, the restaurant excellent and Mr Alom's staff charmingly attentive. Special thanks must go out to his second in command, the genial Mr Sam from Pondicherry who raised our enjoyment of this visit to even greater heights. His apparent ability to be everywhere simultaneously when you needed him coupled with his friendly, courteous and discreet assistance transformed our days. Thank you Mr Sam!

I enjoyed that everything was in walking distance. The local people are very nice and helpful. The local food was delicious, and the environment was a relaxing atmosphere. If you get lost any local would help you with directions or even take you to your destination. Pakse had many Buddhist monuments that you can walk into and explore and take pictures. Wonderful little city would like to come again.

Suitable for backpackers with lots of time and a chill state of mind. Getting there is not easy and there's really not that much to do once on the island other than just chill. I came during "high season" yet the island was still pretty empty. It's a great place for couples or groups of friends arriving together, not so much for solo travelers.

I was in Champassak during the Wat Phou Festival which was great and interesting and then returned for one night after being in the 4000 Islands before heading north. The Temple are marvellous and would like to see it without all the tourists and festival goers but I enjoyed the festival particularly the opening and the Alms Ceremony for the monks. We went down the Wat Oum Tomo by a small private boat - a 2 hour trip each way around the island, but it was well worth it. Champassak is peaceful and encourages relaxation although I found bicycling in the rice paddies gave me insight into country life. My most vivid memory is sitting by the Mekong and watching the most beautiful sunrises I have ever seen over a river that was as still as glass.

A still very authentic village on Mekong's largest island.

A still very authentic village on Mekong's largest island. There is nothing much to do, but this is the village's special charm. You sit in one of the lovely restaurants along the Mekong, you let your gaze wander over the river any you watch the fisherman. The pace in this village is very relaxed, people are very friendly and all you have to do is to relax as well. I highly recommend you to visit the morning market at the edge of the village. It is very special and you should come very early, at around 6 am.

This is a quieter location than the more popular southern islands of Don Det and Don Khone. What I loved here is the quiet, less garbage and less tourist jadedness of the locals which I experienced on my visit to the southern isles. One day I rented a scooter and rode around the whole island and really enjoyed it! If your aim is the waterfalls, kayaking, and lots of tourist facilities, this might not be the place for you. However, you can get down to the waterfalls from here by private boat which takes about 1.5 hours and a beautiful experience as well.
