A gem in Norway. Spectacular views, great staff. The room in motel was perfect size. The dinner was amazing!!! They said “small buffet” - at first we thought about not going with price of 570 Nok per person, but I’m so glad we did- the food was wonderful and so diverse, and also it was big! Breakfast was smaller but still amazing. Great stay!

Exceptional location, we decided to pay for the deluxe room with view of the sea - best decision ever. Beautifully renovated, friendliest staff, just serene with spots everywhere in and about the hotel where one could sit and enjoy a drink or a cup of tea - one has access to tea and coffee in the hallway, absolutely charming set-up. We will definitely return.

The hotel is situated in a tiny picturesque village from the late 19th century by the Luster fjord, overlooking a fantastic view. It has Norway’s best breakfast with everything you may wish, and fantastic service. For extra luxury, enjoy a wonderful 4-course dinner prepared by some of our best chefs, followed by a drink and coffee in the garden. We stayed in one of the modern rooms, which has plenty of space and a nice porch on the lawn to enjoy the morning sun. This is a must see for everyone who just want to relax and enjoy the beautiful landscape. It’s not cheap, but it’s with it.

It's beautiful and unique.

It's beautiful and unique. It has stunning streets and neighbourhoods, the port area is amazing. It is surrounded by hills you can easily access and enjoy. Full of restaurants very inclusive with dietary restrictions. We also enjoyed cute cafes, cool stores and peaceful parks. People everywhere were very friendly and spoke english really well, which makes it easier for visitors that don't speak norwegian. Also, the best souvenirs ever!

A quiet village nestled at the head of a beautiful fiord with towering mountains all around. Excellent facilities including a bakery, grocery store, Mall of Norway and several restaurants, plus fast food outlets. Mini cruises available to nearby attractions, kayaks for hire and lakeside saunas. The most notable attraction is the world famous Flam Railway which climbs to almost 3000 feet a.s.l. up to Myrdal, where it connects to the Oslo to Bergen line.

Aurland is a quiet town with a well-stocked grocery and an excellent bakery. It is not a port of call for the huge Sognefjord cruise ships, so it is not overrun by tourists multiple times a day. By car, the town is 20 minutes from Flåm, 35 minutes from Lærdal via the Lærdalstunnelen (the world's longest road tunnel, at almost 25km), and 2.5 hours from Bergen. A refueling station is located just south of town, off the E-16 roundabout. It offers reasonable prices for electric vehicle charging and petrol/diesel fuel. And, it serves the best homemade soup in the area!

Voss is very easy to reach by train or bus, and it's very well connected. There's a cable car to whisk you up the mountain, and from there there are walking paths over the fells, and to ski lifts. There's also plenty of nice places to walk in the town and buses to take you to more remote places to walk. The town has some nice places to eat and drink, but it isn't overly touristy. It's an excellent base for visiting Sognefjord and Flåm -- I did a nice circuit on train, ferry and bus and packed a huge amount of gorgeous landscapes into a day.

Vickinghaug is set amongst incredible Norwegian fjord scenary. It has the other point of interest in that there is a, no longer functioning in its original capacity , factory in the middle of the Fjord. Because it poses no environmental problems any longer. This factory gives the Fjord an interesting historical relevance. The proprietors are obviously always improving the function of the accomodation to suit lots of different styles of travellers. We stayed in a three bedroom, self catering apartment with views on both sides. We had a drink in the evening looking over the lake and the waterfall and dinner at night looking over the Fjord. The walks in the area are popular because they are so full of natural beauty and thus attract many hikers and campers . The town felt slightly off piste from the over used tourist pathways which suited us perfectly.

We had booked the Norway in a Nutshell route from Oslo to Bergen and our friends had recommended we break up the journey and stay the night in Gudvangen and I am so glad we did! It was the most beautiful town right in the heart of a fjord - the views were breathtaking and as not many people stayed the night like we did, we felt like we had the place to ourselves. We didn't stay long enough to participate in any of the activities offered the next morning (kayaking, hiking or a visit to the viking museum) but I don't think you need to stay any longer than two nights. I highly recommend that you stay at least one night in Gudvangen if you are travelling through it

Bergen is absolutely beautiful.

Bergen is absolutely beautiful. It is certainly worth noting that it is the rainiest city in Europe! But we did get lucky on our trip with a lovely sunny day. We stayed in central Bergen for 5 nights (6-11 October), which was a perfect length of time for us. Our apartment was on Grønnegaten, close to the Lille Lungegårdsvannet. We explored the city with its beautiful architecture. Restaurants/cafes are fairly expensive (coming from Cambridge/London, UK), but we stayed somewhere with a kitchen so ate in in the evenings. We walked up Fløyen (1 hour to the top from our apartment, very accessible road route) and got the funicular down (75 NOK one way). We also walked up Ulriken --- Google Maps took us a bit of a weird route (from our apartment to the Skyskraperen restaurant at the top of Ulriken, the walk went via Kolstien bus stop) that felt like we were going through someone's back garden (we weren't), but it took us about 2.5 hours total to walk from our apartment to the top. A more challenging walk with lots of water and a bit of scrambling. Definitely wouldn't have wanted to do it in the rain --- we got lucky with a dry sunny day. We got the cable car down (240 NOK one way). We also got the train from Bergen to Voss (536 NOK return) and the Voss gondola up the mountain (360 NOK return). I'd recommend all of these activities! It was also great that all the tickets could be purchased online and contactless/Apple Pay was widely accepted. Everyone we interacted with also spoke amazing English and was very friendly.
