The location is excellent—right in the city center, close to the port with ferries to the islands, great restaurants, and various leisure spots. Public transport is very convenient, with city bus stops right across the street and a direct airport bus just around the corner. The staff is exceptionally friendly and attentive, both at the reception and in the restaurant. The breakfast is outstanding, offering fresh ingredients, a wide selection, and a live cooking station for omelets and fried eggs. The purpose of our trip was to visit new (6 month old) grandaughter. Not being to familiar with our way around I found driving to be a bit of a challenge. Therefore it was not a holiday destination in the traditional sense.

Windy but worth it. Stunning views and loads to do. Make use of the busses it saves you from having to pay ridiculous amounts for parking in CBD, and we just walked everywhere with the stroller. We hired a croc bike for 30min on the walkway and then had delicious crafted shakes at the Shake Bar. Te Papa museum was good for the rainy day and we enjoyed the Cable Car up to the gardens and the lovely stroll down. The Crab Shack is a must for dinner! Lovely atmosphere, amazing food and the friendliest staff.

We loved Rotorua, there are so many cool things to do solo...

We loved Rotorua, there are so many cool things to do solo or with a family. The National kiwi hatchery was wonderful and the kids favourite, we also loved the forest sky walk and glow worm tunnel, and the buried village. Top place to eat - the Fainting Goat pub in town, favourite place for Dad was Hobiton, favorite pick by mum The Secret Spot hot tubs (I recommend you leave the kids at home with dad and enjoy this place solo). It's a good idea to hire a car, we stayed a little out of town and also had fun just driving around the beautiful NZ countryside :)

Taupo is much better visited outside of the busy periods (school holidays). When there's less traffic and you can get around without issue and finding a carpark is more likely. So much to see and do and many amazing restaurants. Wairakei is also only up the road and there are many geothermal attractions within a short driving distance.

Lots of cycle/ walking paths, the river is fabulous to be near, there were plenty of restaurants in the city. Rice rice Baby was our favourite meal. We enjoyed our ride to Ngāruawāhia and the coffee & food was good at Breaking Bread cafe

It has many Art Deco buildings which makes it an interesting city. The area around the sound shell is beautifully landscaped. There seems to be a good range of food outlets and I had one of the best pork crackling meals at The Marine Bistro that I have ever eaten.

The square in Palmy is great. Have a good explore around. If you can, go to a show at the Regent on Broadway. It is a beautiful theatre. Popeyes is now open on the way out of town, it is delicious. EB games is in one of the malls and well worth checking out if thats your sort of thing

Traffic lights at the roundabouts that’s something we don’t see everyday. Chilled town and friendly people , I’m guessing it’s alot busier over summer . Fernland spas , relaxing , affordable, refreshing spas. Make that a must do while you are in town.

Everything is within walking distance, and everyone is so friendly. Jimmy Jacks is awesome to eat at, food is amazing. Our husbands went out on a fishing charter, great experience they enjoyed it. Recommend Big Fish for the charter.

A beautiful clean city with so much history Had the most fabulous 86 year old walking guide from the Museum . His wealth was immense. Learnt so much about the early history of New Plymouth particularly the Taranaki Maori. Loved it . Will be back.
