FAQs about hotels in Azores
Portuguese Paradise Islands
The discovery of the Azores Islands is surrounded by many myths, but the official story places it in the year 1431 by Gonçalo Velho Cabral. Since then, they have been settled in different waves of migrations, creating a distinctive identity that mixes local and Portuguese continental traditions.
With their colourful houses, beautiful beaches, green hills and volcanoes, lakes, and rich traditions, the Azores Archipelago is a unique place to explore. Composed of 9 main islands and several smaller islets, their landscape and culture create magnificent settings and opportunities to enjoy.
The volcanic lakes on São Miguel Island offer beautiful beaches, earth ovens, and great panoramic views surrounded by green slopes. Being the biggest island, you will find a wide range of Azores hotels on São Miguel.
The Holy Spirit festivals mark the liveliest season and are celebrated on every island from May to September. Check out the availability of hotels for the Azores Islands on the Booking.com website during those dates.
On Pico Island, you can climb the 2,351 meters of Mount Pico, the highest point in Portugal. The picturesque city of Angra do Heroismo on Terceira Island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

- From US$181.52 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very good - What previous guests thought, 1,243 reviewsMy family and I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Pestana Bahia Resort in the Azores Islands, and it was an unforgettable experience that exceeded our expectations in every way. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that made us feel right at home. The resort itself is a stunning oasis, nestled amidst the lush, green landscape that the Azores are famous for. Our accommodation was spacious, immaculately clean, and equipped with all the modern amenities that a family of four could need. The beds were incredibly comfortable, ensuring a good night's sleep after each day's adventures. What truly sets Pestana Bahia Resort apart, however, is its exceptional staff. Every member of the team was friendly, helpful, and genuinely dedicated to making our stay as enjoyable as possible. In suGuest review byEduardosSlovakia
- From US$165.59 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Superb - What previous guests thought, 820 reviewsEverything! I would give 10000 stars if I could. I traveled alone as a women and I always felt save, special and in good hands. The stuff is so kind, and that's so special about this place. It's like a family, they will always try to help you for your best time on the island and be there for you. The team in the kitchen, just adorable and kind. It was such a magical place. The stone houses. No wifi in the houses made it even better. I had ponneys in my garden, a cat that accompanied me to my house and so many magic moments more. Obrigada!!!!Guest review byIsabelleSwitzerland
- From US$143.59 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.4Very good - What previous guests thought, 1,138 reviewsAn absolute gem of a hotel. The staff were friendly and extremely accommodating. Everything about our stay was perfect. Beautiful rooms, great facilities and a short walk into the centre of Ponta Delgada for all the cafe's, shops, bars and restaurants. Hotel food and drinks were reasonably priced and of exceptional quality. The bar staff were superb - recommending Azores gin and tonics and local beers to suit our tastes. In short - if you're looking at this hotel as an option, book it. You won't be disappointed.Guest review byPaulUnited Kingdom
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.8Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 148 reviewsExtremely welcoming, service-minded staff (owners managing there own place); nice room with own balcony and sea and mountain view; decent room size; fabulous breakfast; quality answers to every question, advice from the tourist's perspective, sometimes driven by the business interests of the other services the place offers, but never inappropriate or even intruding; located right in the middle of where the action in more and more buzzling Lajes is.Guest review byMarcoSwitzerland
- From US$318.45 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 366 reviewsWe’d stay at several 5 star hotels before Mosteiros Place and this out outperformed those other hotels! Really high class. It had very much a ”home”-feeling since there are only 6 apartments with great spaces and the most amazing sunset from the apartment window! The staff were also so welcoming and friendly, and we got a little gift as we came for our honeymoon. Would love to come backGuest review byVictoriaSweden

We did the 2 day excursion of Ponta Delgada ( since we chose not to rent a car) ….it was phenomenal. The tour guide Joao was very knowledgeable and brought us to the most amazing spots on the island. Exceptional / stunning views . WOW!!!!! Could have stayed a few extra days , there is so much to experience.Guest review byMariaCanada - 8.0
Hilly nice little town with historical center and marina.
Hilly nice little town with historical center and marina. Not easy to drive through and park, but excellent for walking. Not many souvenir shops, and lots of cheap Chinese fake products but comparing to other towns in Azores this one is quite big. Bars, restaurants and bistros are there but these are not the best, they are sufficient though. The natural reserve on peninsula with citadel and military base is extraordinary. Great view and experience, nice for picnic or hiking!Guest review byJarek__PLPoland - 10.0

Horta is a fabulous town, friendly people, nice restaurants and pedarias and shops in and around the Main Street Our favorite place to eat was a fab resteraunt overlooking the ocean Praia do a Almoxarife. Lovely harbor with interesting paintings from passing sailors. Porto Pim Beach close by. Probably best to get a hire car to see all the lovely spots around the island (quite expensive) although the local buses are pretty good too. Plenty of walking/hiking trails especially the walk around the rim of Caldeira e Capelinhos. Lots of amazing view points and botanical gardensGuest review byJOHNUnited Kingdom - 8.0
I enjoyed Riberia Grande.
I enjoyed Riberia Grande. It is a great place to situate yourself if you are planning to visit different areas of the island. The public swimming pools and ocean access was fantastic. I enjoyed going to the courtyard area in my area nightly to eat and enjoy a glass of wine. Took a little getting used to the serving staff here as they did not seem interested in their customers. Upon searching Google, I found out this may be because they are paid a decent living wage and therefore not reliant on tips. This makes it even more confusing as to why they would not be receptive to their customers.Guest review byRosannaCanada - 10.0

Spectacular park and hot springs. The foliage in the park is magnificent rivalling some of the most iconic parks in the world. Quiet, close to quiet seaside town with whale watching, fishing and good food.Guest review byMikePortugal - 10.0
Madalena is an awesome place to spend time in.
Madalena is an awesome place to spend time in. You can book acitivities with agencies near the port. There are a couple of really good restaurants. Pico wine is amazing! During my stay in Pico (may) the weather was extremely changing and it was very hard to plan activities such a hiking Mt. Pico that depends on the weather. The temperature could feel like 30c while it was sunny and felt like 10c when cloudy and rainy. The same goes for the wind. Averall worth the experience tho. :)Guest review byMartinCanada - 10.0
A very comfortable and pleasant town for living and staying,...
A very comfortable and pleasant town for living and staying, with very nice people, and an overall good atmosphere. There is enough to see and to enjoy, from food, ice-creams, and cafes. It also has a lovely small market where you can eat as well, and opposite a garden with a nice sitting area. It has all possible shops, a large grocery, it's surrounded by hills, and much green. There are many very nice old houses, nicely renovated We are not young, so I can't say. There is a very nice and spacious beach with fine black sand The town is a little bit on a hill, but by walking down, you can enjoy a very nice view of the sea. This is also the heart of the town. Another good trip is a walk the monup the hill to ument. It can be walked from both sides, both offering very nice views all around. Moving around without a car is quite difficultGuest review byJIRINASlovakia - 10.0

It is a beautiful and historic building with so much character. It has calm and peaceful seating areas throughout where you can sit in comfort. They have the best breakfast and we relied on the banana for a snack as we were out and about during the day. This location is perfect for exploring the island as it is centrally located. We will definitely be backGuest review bySallyUnited Kingdom - 8.0

São Roque is very spread out, so a car is needed if you stay outside the heart of the village. Most restaurants were closed, so dining out was tricky (end of March). It is worth staying in a self catering place when going off season. The minimarket by the fire-station is well stocked. Safe swimming spot at the Naval Club. Close to hiking trails.Guest review byOdilePortugal - 8.0
Velas was a nice quite town. There is lots to see and do.
Velas was a nice quite town. There is lots to see and do. Great hotels and friendly staff. There is a "pool" downtown at the seawall within the ocean due to rocks that have been placed, so you can swim. They have a stage where artists and singers can perform. Lots of cute shops with great merchansie to purchase, with easy streets to walk through. Lots of cobbled stones, so wear comfortable shoes. Great restaurants down cute little streets and lots of friendly people who want to help you regardless if you can speak portuguese or not.Guest review byPamelaUnited States
