- From $88.25 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.6Excellent - What previous guests thought, 1,619 reviewsOur large room on the third floor had a little terrace with a view of a mountainside. We loved sitting and listening to the variety of birds, even a cuckoo! I did morning yoga in a special meditation room. They also had a kids play area, pool table/game area and quiet desk - all indoors with nature view. The heated outdoor pool with massaging jets was incredible after a day of sightseeing. Breakfast was excellent with great views from large windows. The beds were comfy and the room temperature control was very responsive. The staff were so courteous and helpful. They gave us a 20% off voucher for the Quinta Vale de Aldeia which led us to take their marvelous tour and tasting. There aren't enough stars for this hotel.Guest review byDianaUnited States

If Viseu was near the ocean I would've moved there inmediately. Lovely streets to wander around, parks and local shops and restaurants. Lovely architecture to admire and just love the ambience. The N2 national road passes through here and it's close to a great metal festival.Guest review byJessicaPortugal - 6.0
Nice and modern hotel with a relaxing atmosphere.
Nice and modern hotel with a relaxing atmosphere. Nice restaurant with a view on the hill. We also enjoyed the indoor heated pool. The hotel is located in an area of cheap apartment buildings and the surroundings are not enjoyable. Seen from the outside, the hotel is also ugly, except from the outside swimming pool area.Guest review byAnneFrance - 10
Guarda was our first entry point to Portugal as we drove to...
Guarda was our first entry point to Portugal as we drove to the Algarve. from Spain. Check in was very laid back and easy and we were quickly settled in our apartment at Hotel Santos, a family run establishment. The old and young staff provided a level of unintrusive efficient service that some major hotel groups should learn. This is the highest city in Portugal rising above 1200 metres in the Estrella mountains. The view from our window was breathtaking looking out across the valleys below and inhaling the clean cool evening mountain air. We were surprised to find a really vibrant population of around 39000 inhabitants, many shops, cafes and restaurants in such a small community. Guarda today is an important hub for the region where many roads and railway lines meet, providing excellent transport links in every direction. Guarda as its name suggests was a defense against the Moors in days gone by and has many wonderful sights that are well preserved to this day. We found a busy square very close to the hotel almost devoid of tourists where locals sat for hours just chatting and enjoying the restaurants in the summer heat, ensuring that their way of life wasn't taken over by loud music and the chaos of high density tourism. A small part of the square had become a mini water park where children played with hoses and an improvised slide. We joined the people watching the setting sun while enjoying a light snack and the mandatory beer to accompany it. A very comfortable night and excellent breakfast prepared us for the drive to the Algarve. You cant beat this lifestyle for sheer beauty and relaxation.Guest review byTimothyJersey - 6.0

We left a day early because the town is quite remote and we were keen to move on. We are on a month long tour of Portugal though so a day didn’t make much difference to us. There isn’t much to do in Manteigas itself. Having said that, the guide in the local tourist office is exceptionally helpful and very knowledgeable about the region. There are some beautiful views as you drive in and out of the town.Guest review bySuzy - 10

Breathtaking views. The area is stunning and so peaceful. We drove into some of the small villages and the locals were so friendly. We prefer to eat away from the tourist areas and we were not disappointed in this area. The food was fresh and tasty and very reasonable.Guest review byAnonymous - 6.0

The Quinta de Sao Luiz, where we were staying, made a reservation for us at a restaurant in Tabuaco. The drive to the restaurant was challenging due to the serpentine road and rainy weather. I don't think there was much to do in that small town, but we had an okay experience at the restaurant.Guest review byDmitryUnited States - 10

Got to Moncorvo visit the church and eat at restaurant Lagar. Next day go to Foz do Sabor and eat "peixinhos do rio" at a local restaurant. Then go to Horta da Vilarica, try to find out where the Padaria is and buy the local bread - out of this world. In Foz Coa you need to see the prehistoric rock-art sites in the Coa Valley - you have never seen anything like that. And drink the local wine, eat the local cheeses, try the local sausages and enjoy the friendly people. You'll not regret it.Guest review byMAUnited States - 10
Stay more than one night and explore: it pays dividends.
Stay more than one night and explore: it pays dividends. Have a look at Favaios and try the Cooperative's Moscatels, walking in the hills, go and see the palaeolithic art (about an hour away). One or two nights is not enough, especially if you include port tasting too! And there is always the poolside to relax when you dont want to do anything!Guest review byIwonaUnited Kingdom
