Great experience from the moment we checked in. Friendly and helpful staff, big comfortable rooms, and a nice spread for breakfast. The hotel is just a block from a nice street with lots of restaurants and there is a parking garage across the street. We would stay there again.

Staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Chef Emrah was especially helpful and spoke good English which made everything from ski hire to special requests much smoother. Staff went above and beyond to help, offering rides to/from the hotel to the ski lifts (which is usually just a 2 minute walk), took on suggestions for breakfast/dinner options, and accommodated late checkout. Staying at Balsoy was like staying at a second home, highly recommend.

Amazing place. The 2 miserable Turkish tourists who left 1/10 scores for silly reasons lower the average rating, but it really is a 10/10. Literally everything you could hope for, superb food, beautiful building, great value.

Extremely nice boutique hotel, a 10-minute walk from the old Kars Castle. I enjoyed my time there until the last minute: a very comfy bed, a big and nice room, and a hot shower. The room was equipped with all the necessary amenities, including a Nespresso machine with complimentary capsules, water, and snacks available in the fridge for an additional fee. Additionally, I must compliment the breakfast - it was exquisite. The cheese plate featured a great selection of Kars cheese, eggs were served on your choice of omelet or menemen, and there were some other starters, tea, and coffee included. The personnel in the hotel are extremely helpful, and I would like to thank them for their support and recommendations. Recommended!

The hotel staff were wonderful—kind, polite, and always helpful. In particular, Nastaran stood out as an exceptional receptionist. Erzurum is a place for ski-holiday in Palandoken. The hotel is a 10 minute drive from the ski resort, which is perfect. Erzurum is a very traditional city in the far east of Turkey. There are really extremely nice and friendly people there. The atmosphere is very friendly and gentle.

The historic centre is very compact and has an old Armenian church, the castle and a historic bridge and hammam. When we visited (September) there were lots of other tourists there but we didn't see any other westerners. The area is clean and felt safe and is all well maintained.

A city with very many friendly and helpful persons whatever you do, and I felt safe all the time. I stayed only overnight twice in a week, but I will always remember how nice it was meeting other people in Erzerum as well as people on buses and trains. Yes, this goes for people in Turkey as well, way over my expectations

It's a Turkish city like no other.

It's a Turkish city like no other. As few as four decades of the Russian Empire here made it look very different. Yet, its history has been much longer, and one can see many layers. The nearby ancient ruins of Ani and natural beauty of the Lake Çıldır, a very mild summer, peculiar and mouthwatering local food specialties will just add to your overwhelming excitement.

Van is a charming city located in the eastern part of Turkey and is in close proximity to the Iranian border. It serves as a popular destination for many people who travel from Iran by car for short holidays and shopping trips. What makes Van especially appealing is the availability of numerous Turkish franchise brands, allowing visitors to enjoy reliable and affordable shopping experiences, often at lower prices compared to Istanbul. Additionally, the city boasts a wide range of excellent restaurants and delicious cuisine, surpassing the quality and affordability of many establishments in Istanbul. I highly recommend Van to anyone seeking an affordable and enjoyable travel experience in Turkey.

There isn't a lot of the old town and castle left, but what is there is worth a visit if you are going for the winter sports or for a walk in the mountains. Or even if you are there for work. The local kebabs are excellent and there are plenty of good restaurants in the town. Taxis are plentiful, I didn't see much in terms of public transport.

Kars itself is a cold, high, frontier town, in what was Russia late in the 19th Century, feels oddly like Alaska (also Russian then). A big fortress, lovely gardens below, but polluted river and the odd packs of large stray dogs. More like huskies, not hostile, but unnerving. Some far older buildings too, well restored overall. A lively music scene too, it seems, both classical and folk, the latter commemorated in lines of severe portrait busts. Modern airport, and taxi drivers give free Kurdish lessons. In the end I suspect, for most, a useful, vibrant, waystation to Ani, the incredible lost city on a gorge, next to the Armenian border.
