FAQs about hotels in Hawaii
The American Dream
Hawaii is everything you’ve seen in films and more. The USA’s 50th and most exotic state comprises over 19 volcanic islands with diverse landscapes, amazing beaches and rainforest greenery. It’s an exclusive destination, so of all Hawaii hotels, 5 star properties make up a decent proportion.
Home to Pearl Harbour, the capital Honolulu on O’ahu island has many hotels by Waikiki beach, immortalised in song and famous for excellent nightlife and surfing, as anyone familiar with Hawaii-5-0 will know. Northern O’ahu has some of the best winter surfing around.
The nearest island is laidback Molokai and to its south is unspoilt Lanai. East is the island home to most Hawaii hotels – Maui. Hiking to the green peaks of its rugged interior gives a completely different viewpoint. Of course, the beaches are still the main attraction and there is a long line of hotels on the beach on Booking.com, from green Lahaina all the way to beautiful Kapalua. Other fantastic beaches are found at Kihei and neighbouring Wailea.
South-west is Hawai’I (Big Island), dominated by Mauna Loa – one of the world’s largest volcanoes. In its foothills are the joint resorts of Kailua and Kona, while the northern Kohala coast provides spectacular scenery. In the east Hilo curves around a bay and is home to the island’s airport.

- From $196.99 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very Good - What previous guests thought, 966 reviewsI had the one-bedroom room with a swimming pool view, and it was absolutely worth it! The room was neat, cozy, and beautifully decorated with a retro-chic vibe. The staff, especially the wonderful Hawaiian girls at reception, were incredibly welcoming and went above and beyond to meet all my needs. From check-in to check-out, the service was truly impeccable. The parking was also very attractive—both in terms of convenience and price, which is rare for Waikiki! It was such a relief not to worry about parking in such a busy area. The overall vibe of the hotel is laid-back yet stylish, and the pool area was the perfect spot to relax after a day of exploring. I highly recommend this gem for anyone looking for an amazing stay in Waikiki. I’ll definitely be back!Guest review byJonathanSwitzerland
- From $372.75 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.4Good - What previous guests thought, 494 reviewsThis hotel exceeded our expectations! The price is super low, the rooms are spacious, the staff above and beyond friendly, everything was great. I highly recommend this place if you are traveling with kids or a group, or have an extended stay. Our room had a full kitchen with cookware, even a rice cooker! Full size fridge, all of the amenities one could want. The dining area was large, and the view from the balcony was amazing! The pool floor is very fun, with a clean pool and two jacuzzis, even a playground area for little kids and lots of bbq grills to use. This is a no-frills place that still keeps a nice level of comfort. I now highly recommend staying here, and we will be back! 😊Guest review byVirenUnited States
- From $228.84 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.7Good - What previous guests thought, 2,481 reviewsI only stayed for one night but what an amazing stay did I had! I booked a standard room but those were all booked so I got a free upgrade to the junior suite, that was so sweet of them. The room was very spacious, clean, welcoming and nice! The balcony was also very nice and the view was gorgeous. The staff was very welcoming and kind:). I am often in Hawaii so I can say with confidence that the location is very nice and centrally located. The bus stop is only a 2min walk from the hotel and the beach is also only a 9min walk! Breakfast was also very nice! All and all an amazing experience and would definitely recommend.Guest review byAlaisaNetherlands

Honolulu is unique in the world.
Honolulu is unique in the world. A tropical paradise crossroads between America, Asia and Oceania. Although Honolulu is a commercial centre like any other moderate sized American city, its relaxed charm, mild tropical weather, beautiful sunsets and great beaches outweigh everything else.Guest review byMalcolm BowmanUnited States - 10

Absolutely should visit the national parks and cultural experiences. Do a bunch of research in advance on how to find the various scenic locations, waterfalls, etc. There are few signs to guide you along the way.Guest review byAnonymous - 8.0
The landscape is great!
The landscape is great! Hula Grill offers very good food (a little bit expensive), you can find vary beers in Maui Brewery, is too easy to move in Lahaina, but if you are interesting to visit Hana, I prefered to pay a tour instead to drive there and for me was good, of course you will spend more money, but you won't be worried to arrive there. Also, is kind of difficult if you don't enjoy driving a lot.Guest review byLuisUnited States - 10
I LOVE Hilo!!! It still holds "The Essence of Hawaii."
I LOVE Hilo!!! It still holds "The Essence of Hawaii." It is not overrun with tall modern buildings, and "Tacky Tourist Attractions." It maintains an Old Hawaii Charm. You're not overwhelmed with street performers and aggressive sales people trying to pull you into their cosmetics stores. Yet there are still some homeless people there which is not good. However, I feel very safe in Hilo. There are nearby beautiful gardens and great beaches! Hilo is surrounded by so much natural beauty. There are some great restaurants there as well. I really like all of them, and I make sure to have at least one dinner at Hilo Bay Cafe. I also always make sure to visit the Imiloa Astronomy Center by UH Hilo. It is an excellent place to learn about the history & culture of Hawaii. And their planetarium has amazing presentations!Guest review byGayleUnited States - 8.0
Kapaa seems to be an old town.
Kapaa seems to be an old town. It is not like Poipu or Hanalei but good small town. We had great meal at Fish Bar Deli, local foods (spam musubi and chicken karate) to take out at Wailua Drive In, and big bowl of pho at Pho Kapaa. These places were busy with local people and we enjoyed their meals as well as services.Guest review byRyokoUnited States - 10

This property is right in between the Marriott and the grand Wailea with beach front access. This property has beach service where they have towels and lounge chairs for the property. The property is absolutely beautiful. I found the pools to be a little too shallow for swimming. This property is located right next to a lot of restaurants and shopping. We would definitely come back.Guest review byAShleyUnited States - 10
So MANY things to do on southwest part of Maui.
So MANY things to do on southwest part of Maui. Can go south from Kihei and go snorkeling at several places. Take a trip out to Molokini, go to the top of Volcano and even did the road to Hana. Lots of food choices near and in Kihei and groceries too. Great location, will stay in that area again,Guest review byHagerUnited States - 10
The view from the property was OK.
The view from the property was OK. There was a cruise ship docked across the way and several garage type businesses across the street. No real ocean view. The plants are beautiful and it's fun to see the chickens and roosters running around every where you go.Guest review byJanet - 10
It is close to Volcano National Park.
It is close to Volcano National Park. In the park, there are many scenic hiking trails, interesting natural wonders, and with luck, an eruption. Facilities in the town are minimal, with limited dining and groceries.Guest review byPhilip - 8.0
We loved the location and how close we were to the beach!
We loved the location and how close we were to the beach! Lots of walking paths. Very quiet around the area, but the people above us were stomping across the floor at all hours of the night and early morning. The pool needs some bug control as we had flies on us non-stop and bites on us from the bugs. The host was very accommodating and gave us extra toiletries and even provided box fans which was really nice! The king bed was very comfortable. We would stay here again.Guest review byROBINUnited States
