- From US$368.15 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.0Very good - What previous guests thought, 1,651 reviewsThe hotel is far from the Hilo city centre, it is recommended to have a car or a taxi. There is one restaurant just next to the hotel and some other quite near it, so if you don't really plan to stay in Hilo centre, think about this hotel. The rooms are very nice, had everything we needed, comfy beds, fridge, we were in a refurbished one, without a TV but it did not bother us and we were warned about it by the staff when checking in. Speaking about the staff, super friendly, super nice and helpful. Outside of the room was a small garden, we enjoyed our own breakfast each morning sitting right next to it. We also rented bikes - super easy. We enjoyed the 24h free coffee (best in my opinion in Big Island), we less enjoyed the one free kombucha but i's just not our taste. The airport is near but we did not noticed much of the noise, especially in the evening.Guest review byMariuszPoland
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.4Superb - What previous guests thought, 148 reviewsOrchid tree is exceptionally beautiful, totally solar powered with a beautiful pool, hot tub and landscaping, a large lanai for relaxing and the room is truly large with lounge able furniture , pristine clean. Many places we’ve stayed give you pictures that don’t really represent the place when you arrive. However orchid tree is wonderful as are the hosts, both friendly and responsive ! Breakfast was just fine with fresh fruit, yogurt, granola and a good selection of Juices , breads, cream cheese, etc as well as freshly ground coffee. (Plenty for us but if you are an egg type there’s always places in town). But the lanai, the waves crashing, the superb coffee, we didn’t need more!Guest review bySusanUnited States
- From US$183.43 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.7Good - What previous guests thought, 1,144 reviewsWe're really happy about the stay. Upon booking, the hotel informed us that they don't have AC and elevator, which is unusual these days at main land. As this is our last-minute booking, we decided to go ahead with it. As we first got there, it looks like a motel and pretty rundown from the outside. Actually as we walked into the room, we found it very spacious and the king size bed is so comfortable. We also have a bit view of the ocean. At night it cools down quite a bit. So if you have the balcony door open and fan on, it's pretty cool. The housekeeping ladies are doing a great job cleaning everyday. Overall, we are super happy about this booking and would recommend to our friends.Guest review bySissiCanada

I LOVE Hilo!!! It still holds "The Essence of Hawaii."
I LOVE Hilo!!! It still holds "The Essence of Hawaii." It is not overrun with tall modern buildings, and "Tacky Tourist Attractions." It maintains an Old Hawaii Charm. You're not overwhelmed with street performers and aggressive sales people trying to pull you into their cosmetics stores. Yet there are still some homeless people there which is not good. However, I feel very safe in Hilo. There are nearby beautiful gardens and great beaches! Hilo is surrounded by so much natural beauty. There are some great restaurants there as well. I really like all of them, and I make sure to have at least one dinner at Hilo Bay Cafe. I also always make sure to visit the Imiloa Astronomy Center by UH Hilo. It is an excellent place to learn about the history & culture of Hawaii. And their planetarium has amazing presentations!Guest review byGayleUnited States - 10.0

Has the atmosphere of old Hawaii in the downtown, but it also has new and intriguing areas such as the University of Hawaii at Hilo and it's astronomy center. It also has access to Volcanoes National Park, which is an iconic park and sometimes volcanic eruptions to observe. It also has an extremely extensive farmers market with whole range of tropical fruits and vegetables.Guest review byJamesUnited States - 10.0

The Hilo area is the wet side of the island but our 7 night stay resulted in late evening showers and only 1 semi-rainy day in mid-March. We were lucky. Hilo is old, funky, has a great Farmers' Market, and wonderful scenery. People are friendly and nice. Streets are clean and the flora lovely! As many folks say, it's Hawaii before tourists have overrun it and developers have built fancy hotels.Guest review byMelodieUnited States
