The location is away from the hustle and bustle of central Sapa but easily close enough to visit the town for dining and shopping if that is where your interests lie. I had arrived early morning from the night train and arranged for spa treatments first thing since check in time is not until 1PM. The massage and facial were heavenly after the bone-shaking train trip! Highlights at SCH include the beautiful gardens that provide many of the vegetables and herbs that are used to create healthful and delicious meals. The views are spectacular from the many sitting and resting areas as well as the very comfortable rooms. The entire property is tastefully decorated with local art and artifacts. The staff and owners act as one family, and everyone is very attentive to the needs and requests of the guests. As mentioned, the food is amazing, and I had a ginger cocktail that was SO delicious I can’t wait to try to replicate it at home. The staff offered several options for guided walks and as a solo traveler, I was happy to be paired with another couple. Very difficult to find your way there, all homestay/hotel owners refuse to provide information and collaborate only with specific companies. English guides limited but a guide named Thao made our stay a nightmare. She was trying to push lunch and other side services, once she realized we didn’t want that, she stopped any guiding and intentionally destroyed half of one day and the whole second day by acting simply as a side person on the trip, not providing absolutely anything. We allowed 4 days to explore Sapa, but sadly arrived at the start of a typhoon. Flooding rain and heavy cloud persisted during our stay and we didn’t get to explore the area at all. The weather began to clear as we were leaving and we got glimpses of the stunning region. We have learnt that the weather is very ‘hit or miss’ in Sapa, despite recommendations that Autumn as a good time to visit. If possible, it might be better to hover in Hanoi and visit Sapa when the forecast is promising as it’s a long way to travel to not experience all it has to offer. While flexible travel plans are a luxury, it seems the way to go in Sapa. The same goes for visiting Mt Fansipan on the gondola. Many prepaid, online tickets lock you in to the date you choose in advance. There truly in no way of telling what visibility will be like until the actual day. We are grateful that we hadn’t pre-booked tickets to this attraction as the weather conditions were atrocious during our stay in Sapa. Mountainous area famous for plum. It's called the white valley because during the spring the whole area is covered by plum flowers. So it's best to visit in early January. Otherwise, summer is a good time for plum picking. I had an enjoyable experience picking plum myself and brought lots of them home. I was lucky to visit during the weekends when they had annual horse racing competition. Really memorable. They also have weekly Hmong flea market on Sunday, you can eat local food and see ethnic people trading. Riding motorbike and looking at the mountain was fairly enough for me. We were truly impressed by the breakfast at the hotel every dish was fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. Enjoying a delicious meal while watching the majestic Fansipan mountain range and clouds drifting gently over the valley was an unforgettable experience. The hotel can get quite busy in the morning, so it’s best to arrive a bit early to get one of the best seats where you can sip your coffee and soak in the breathtaking mountain view. I only stayed Saturday night for the Sunday market but wish I’d stayed Friday night too to see the buffalo market on Saturday morning. Get up early (~6am) and go to the market while it’s bustling with locals rather than waiting until the tourist buses arrive (from ~9am).
