Candice met us on arrival, she was the perfect host, warm and friendly and a lovely personality. The lodge was in a lovely garden setting. Our standard rondawel room was clean and comfortable, the shower was good with hot water. Emilia looked after us very well. The breakfast and evening meals were good with plenty of choice and Lorraine and Yomela looked after us, nothing was too much trouble .
Tea and cake was served in the afternoon and the outside fire was lit so you could sit and enjoy a drink before dinner.
We enjoyed a day self driving in Addo elephant park which wasn't far away.

Beautiful place to relax and enjoy the early a.m. sunrises and evening sunsets on the property.
The inner garden and courtyard are just beautiful... especially in the golden hours

The food was very good and the menu was imaginative and varied which was nice for those on a longer stay. Both management and all the staff team alike were warm, efficient, kind and caring, and nothing we asked for was too much trouble. The atmosphere is relaxed and we felt very much at home. We were self driving in the Addo park each day, and it was only a few minutes drive from Woodall so it was great to have some time game watching and then come back for a swim or spa treatment and laze in the lovely garden or on our private terrace.

The best thing about Happy Lands is the wonderful hospitality that Mike & Nita offer. They go above and beyond to make sure their guests are comfortable and have an enjoyable stay. It felt like we were just staying at an old friends house! Happy Lands itself is beautiful, with lovely manicured gardens, tasteful decor in the bedrooms and the separate chalets mean guests have a lot of privacy. Being on the citrus farm makes for a romantic wake-up each morning with the sound of birds and the sunrise forming over the orchards.

This was our second time at Avoca River Cabins and again it was unforgettable.
From breakfast to dinner and especially the private dining right at the loft, everything was perfect.
The chutney chicken was fantastic <3
You feel right at home here. The resort is beautifully and quietly situated in the middle of citrus plantations.
Everything is very clean.
You come as a guest and leave as a friend. :)
We will definitely visit you guys again :)

Very friendly and helpful staff, clean and spacious apartment, comfortable beds (which have heating!! Important during cold season). Great game drive with very knowledgeable guide Lize - highly recommend! We also requested a little birthday surprise for my friend so they arranged cake, sparkling wine and some flowers that were waiting in the room on our arrival. Very well organized!

Recommend a tuck shop at the south entrance gate. No snacks , cold.or hot drinks available. Even if this is only available in high season it would make an enormous difference.
Skottle and or braai grids available at Jack's picnic is recommended as is done at Kruger picnic sites . Many braais do not have grids
Only having a shop at the main entrance is inconvenient.

We liked the venue. The environment is beautiful.
We liked the venue. The environment is beautiful. The road was a challenge, but we knew that we had to come with a 4x4 vehicle and the men knew how to drive on a 4x4 route. It was raining when we arrived and it was cold, but everybody should know not to travel without a jacket.

Barefoot is a reasonable size reserve accessed off a 25km...
Barefoot is a reasonable size reserve accessed off a 25km dirt road that can be a little bumpy in places. A 4x4 is recommended particularly if it rains. We opted for a private transfer to and from the airport and Caleb our driver was just a master at navigating the rough roads - well worth the £180 for the transfer (he also took us on a game drive on a neighbouring reserve close to Addo, organised by Barefoot and he was just incredible, so knowledgable and able to track down the elusive rhino - we would seriously recommend). The Barefoot reserve doesn’t have the big 5 and the 3 Barefoot elephants are cared for by dedicated keepers who spend all their days walking with them as they roam around the reserve. At night the elephants are housed in a very large protected paddock to ensure their safety. You will see giraffe, wilderbeast, zebra as a minimum - they come in herds to graze around the villa of an evening which is an incredible sight. The views from the villa are breathtaking as it sits on its own on a hilltop. There’s good WiFi, no TV (which for us was a good thing), beds were so comfy and the staff - Olivia and Soso just made our stay perfect 🥰

We have been to Addo probably 40 times and just never get...
We have been to Addo probably 40 times and just never get enough of it, and once again on rare occassions, saw a lioness up close. As always there were plenty of Buffalo, Elephant, Zebra, Red Hardebeest, Warthog, Kudu, and oh! a Hyena!
