- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.6Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 26 reviewsAn amazing place. Beautiful grounds, wonderful hospitality. Nothing was too much trouble. If you want peace and quiet and to be looked after royally, this is the place to go. The daily game drives were instructive and interesting. You're not going to see the big five, but you will see a variety of antelope, zebra, ostrich and birds of all types. The main project is the protection and nurturing of the endangered geometric tortoises. It was wonderful to see how these creatures are being reared in specially protected areas and then released into the wild. Mariska, the guide, clearly loves her work with them. She is inspirational. And we were lucky enough to see three babies in the wild too. There are beautiful gardens for a short walk and a dam for water activities. The huge pool is fantastic. The staff are friendly, extremely helpful and couldn't do enough to make our stay as good as it could be. The food was also plentiful, and very tasty. Can't recommend highly enough. Brilliant.Guest review byChorleyGillUnited Kingdom
- From US$179.46 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.3Superb - What previous guests thought, 38 reviewsThe quality of hosting and friendliness surpasses every other venue we've stayed in. The food is brilliant - a different gourmet experience at each breakfast, afternoon tea and canapes. The location on the edge of Riebeek Kasteel makes for a safe & pleasant stroll into town. The vineyard views with mountainous backdrop are a pleasure to behold. The garden & pool & outside seating areas are perfect.Guest review byMichaelUnited Kingdom

Riebeek Kasteel is quaint and old world charm.
Riebeek Kasteel is quaint and old world charm. The people we met were helpful and friendly.I would recommend that you lock your valuables in the boot of your car as petty theft c an be an issue. There are enough eateries for eveyones taste. Best thing to do is park your car and meander.Guest review byLightfoot - 10.0
I loved the "feel" of Darling, with their big wide roads.
I loved the "feel" of Darling, with their big wide roads. You really felt you were out in the countryside, fresh air & beautiful birdsong....no traffic noise. I found the people very friendly. We went for a wedding on one of the farms & loved every minute of it. We ate at the Marmalade Cat, good food, staff were warm & inviting & the cost was very reasonable. I also bought some beautiful gifts from The Heart of Darling shop, loved wandering around the array of items. We also popped into The Forge, such great ambience, lovely staff. I wanted to go back there but we ran out of time. We have friends in Darling & had a braai with them, so we got to meet some of the locals.... loved it! We'll be back.Guest review byGeraldineSouth Africa - 10.0

Great little town. Rose Cafe was really good.
Great little town. Rose Cafe was really good. Unfortunately the local farm workers keep the town centre a little busy - borderline chaotic, but that's South African rural towns on a Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. Was expected.Guest review byNicSouth Africa - 10.0

The house is beautiful and old and the kitchen has all glass . It makes you feel that you are living in a historical house. They have made the property with this beautiful garden and it is lovely The table is outside under the trees for all your meals There is place to sit in the shade and to sit in the sun. The backyard has a firepit. You can spend days there just eating drinking swimming reading and playing games.Guest review byfarrenSouth Africa - 4.0
Porterville is a very small town.
Porterville is a very small town. The Villa-Choc-O-Latt is situated on the main road and is easy to find, although somewhat noisy due to passing traffic. The surrounding scenery, canola fields, agriculture and history of the area is lovely and Porterville is a good transitional point to travel further up the West Coast.Guest review byTennent - 8.0

Riebeek Kasteel is olive & wine central. Beautiful.
Riebeek Kasteel is olive & wine central. Beautiful. The town is small enough to walk where you want to be even at night. Stunning bars & restaurants. The Royal Hotel is a classic. Olive tours, wine cellar tours. Rent a car in Cape Town and do a self-drive.Guest review byTanja - South AfricaSouth Africa - 8.0

Darling is a very nicely situated small town for beach visits and holiday activities, plenty to do and Darling theatre is a super place to visit. Big choice of restaurants and the Smokehouse on the road towards Yzerfontein is a great place. Varied accommodation and a good Spar shop for groceries for 'self caterers' Choice of wine cellars for tasting. It is an area of outstanding beauty.Guest review byMichaelFrance
