    Decent location

This seems to be partly a private club so I’m not sure why they bother to rent rooms to non/members. Not at all accessible: approximately 16 steps from the sidewalk to the front door, the one elevator was being repaired/replaced and had to walk up at least 20 stairs for each floor. The hotel has a 72 hrs cancellation notice which they told me they would have waived but that was after we had checked in and had our luggage delivered to our rooms. The offsite parking was the least of so many other inconveniences. The hotel has a dress code (stricter than described on line) which is strictly enforced by staff and other guests so needless to say we could not use the main floor amenities or dining room. The staff were fine but we never felt welcome here and which I have never experienced at any other hotel.

    Property response:

We are sorry to hear your stay did not meet your expectations. All guests are informed of our dress code, elevator access, and other policies both prior to arrival and again at check-in. Our team also assisted with luggage and communicated these details with courtesy and respect. We understand that not all guests find our club’s traditional policies to their preference, but our staff always strive to ensure a respectful and pleasant environment for everyone.

The location is fabulous. Its a gorgeous historical building with an amazing art collection.

It would have been nice to know about the dress code ahead of time. They started construction on what seemed to be the sewer system at 6:10 am - there was a large truck right below our window and it was very loud. When i went downstairs, there was no one at the front desk.

Dress Code made no sense. Small, dated room. No parking on site.

The location could not be better, the decor is super nice and gives the old school feel to the place

This is my issue as I didn’t read the fine print, but make sure to bring smart casual wear if you want to use to communal areas! The fact I didn’t have this prepared (even though it’s noted on the confirmation email) is why I have had to vote it down a little pn value for money. I just didn’t have the luggage space for the required clothes!

The location is great and the hotel comes along with a nice antique and traditional charm, like advertised. beds are very comfortable and the bathroom is spacious, new and very clean. Liked the big closet with fridge with enough space for all your belongings. everything is walking-distance!

The hotel wants to maintain an upper-class-reputation, which is fine and appreciated. The dress code is mentioned several times throughout the stay, which was a little much as I am an adult who is put together professionally. Also, it would have been great to learn upon arrival that parking in front of the hotel comes with a fee, we got a ticket during the 5min check-in process. We didn't try the club as it was closed during our stay.

The location was great! Very close to marine and the Assembly building 🩷

The room was clean, but I found the mold in the bathroom uncomfortable. due to the lack of air conditioning we slept with the window open and the cries of seagulls woke us up very early

The room was spacious and the hotel is conveniently located walking distance from all the the attractions. Staff is nice.

The room and the hotel are nothing like the pictures. The bathroom is very small. The carpets, furnitures and communal areas desperately need a renovation. They do provide breakfast service upon booking BUT they require a ridiculous “dress code” to access it (I got an email just two days before my staying about that). The elevator is being renovated, our room was on second floor but no one even offered to help us with our numerous luggages. Parking is two blocks away and costs 20cad x day. Overall they are very pretentious without any good reason to.

    Property response:

Thank you for your feedback. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the elevator being out of service. I will pass it along to the management. We look forward to having another opportunity to welcoming you.

It was a unique stay! More like staying at a museum! Love the lounge and library!!! The location is excellent, staff are friendly and helpful! Only small issue - no air condition, can be hot in the summer! However all worth it! As it was beautiful place as a base for holiday or work!

Everything was great, people, food, amenities like the reading room. It is like staying in a 1950 movie set. A place frozen in time.

There is a strict dress code. We are not dress up kind of people so the dress code was a bit of a pain and in several cases didn’t make a lot of sense. My only shoes were Hokas and those were specifically banned.

Old English vibe a bit like staying in an old Eastbourne Hotel. No lift, no tea making in rooms ,no Air con and stuffy atmosphere, didn't feel welcomed by anyone except the excellent reception staff, albeit could print or show me my final bill because 'something ' wasn't working

Stuffy atmosphere , didn't feel welcomed

The location was and exterior and public areas were impressive. The staff was very courteous.

there was no elevator and since we were travelling for a long journey and our luggage was heavy They offered a porter who was nice but we almost felt guilty as he was so young and weak Also the rooms were small and ill equipped no kettle no Aircon One had to come down to the lobby for a cup of coffee which is inconvenient on vacation Also the fans were small and not efficient for the warm summer The parking was not meant for a large height suv and was difficult to find parking The furniture in the room had aged badly The view from the second floor of the room was terrible and looked out to the dirty roof top . The first floor suite was decent size and had a reasonable view.

The staff were very friendly and kind. The location was excellent.

About two weeks prior to my stay i was informed that the elevator wouldn't be working during my stay. As i was attending a large conference i had no option to change hotels. Also, there is NO air conditioning at this hotel and no screens on the windows. The nights were very warm making sleeping difficult and the birds from the harbour and the early morning street cleaner were very loud.

Staff were rude when asking for a jug of water and rats running round the restaurant. Would call it more like a budget hotel. Not worth the money at all. Your get better value for money staying at a holiday inn. We got $100 off for the inconvenience but to be honest the night me and my partner had there they should have given us more. Would not recommend this place at all. This place is not worth the hype
