Maria welcomed us into the reception area as if she were welcoming us into her own home—gracious, warm, and genuine. We’ve stayed at many so-called “exceptional properties,” but this is truly one of the very best we’ve ever experienced. The room, the balcony overlooking the sea and mountains, the city lights, and the music of a gifted cellist in the town square all combined to create pure magic. Thank you, Maria—we loved every moment of our stay!

We loved every minute of our stay at La Garita. First of all, the view from our room on the third floor (note there is no elevator) was unbelievable. We ended up sitting out on the deck watching fireworks and having a take-out dinner al fresco. The room itself is well-decorated and very homey. The premises are very clean and well kept. But the view! It truly takes your breath away and the location is so special right in the middle of Peñiscola's old city overlooking the castle, the beaches, and the town beyond.

Best owners ever - Maria Jose and Damian could not have been more kind and helpful. Maria Jose went so far beyond with the amazing breakfasts and helping out when my husband was injured. Couldn't hope for kinder people. The breakfast was overwhelming with the quantity of food and helpfulness. Sweets or chocolate served with every coffee. Toasties galore! So much food we felt guilty that we couldn't eat more. And the location is quite the best in the old town. What a view, and only a few steps either to the beach or the castle and old town.

Squeaky bed. Many stairs. Small rooms. STILL: I would 100% return. None of these things were unexpected (except maybe the squeaky bed) - you are in an historic building, hence the small rooms, and you have to climb up stairs to get such an unforgettable view. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

There are a lot of stairs to get to our room, but I would still stay there again just to get the view. 61 stairs in total. Peniscola is a town that has very steep streets and stairs everywhere, so to have stairs at the hotel was to be expected and certainly wouldn't put me off of staying again

The host was wonderful, so kind and helpful. The breakfast was incredible. The view from our room was breathtaking. We had the top floor room with the large terrace. The location couldn't have been any better

Little challenging for people with mobility issues

Maria Jose the owner was wonderful. She picked us up when we arrived at night and we couldn't find our way to the Hotel. Just for that I would give the place 5 star. The hotel in the center of the old Castle/Fortification and with a beautiful view of the sea. I highly recommend the place.

Perfect location with amazing views. Maria is super friendly and serves a legendary breakfast. On arrival we called the number on the door and Damien was there inside 5 minutes to let us in - he couldn't be more accommodating too. We took the top floor room, "Cine", which has a large private terrace to catch the sun and soak in the views. The room comes with a microwave and small fridge, great if you don't want to spend all your time in restaurants. Smallish well designed room adds to the charm. Can't fault the whole experience. Recommended.

Lots of steps to get there with luggage . And room was a bit small with a large dog .

What a super quaint property. Managed to park near by . Lots of steps but such a beautiful place in a walled city . The room was a bit small with a large dog but was comfortable . The owner was so lovely and the breakfast was incredible , such a lot of choice and she couldn’t do enough for us . There was cheese toasties, tostadas , eggs , nuts and lovely coffee.
