It’s important to remember this is a room within a family home. Therefore, there will be noise in the earlier hours of the morning. It’s not terrible by any means, but it is something to keep in mind. Lastly, pigeons like to nest/chill on the roof. So, lots of cooing and scratching from them in the VERY early hours of the morning. I do understand, however, that this is something nearly impossible to fix.

There's not much to whinge about. Some stairs, if you have dodgy knees or if you have a kitchen sink in your luggage. No tv... but that was a positive for me! The room was rather cold during the night (heating off during the night), but then it was a very cold and wintry night, so that can be expected.

Everything ok. Walkable from town, and there are plenty of buses nearby. Quiet residential street. Lovely old family house. Genial host.

Location was closer to my workplace compared to my previous accommodation by distance but because of city traffic it takes longer

I would have given the place a better rating, but can't because of the problems I experienced. The bathroom was shared with another guest, who had obviously recently used the shower as there was soapy foam all round the shower tray. I mentioned this to the owner assuming he would clean it, but instead he said he would ask the guest to clean it. The next day it was still just as dirty. I decided to try to rinse it and use it anyway, but when I opened the shower door it crashed down on top of me, then a second partition did too. When I told the owner's wife she said she'd told the other guest to "clean, clean, clean" but the owners didn't seem to think they had any responsibility for ensuring I had a clean bathroom to use, without having to shower in another guest's dirt. Similarly, when I tried to hang some clothes up, the rail fell off. I went down the stairs holding the hand rail, but my hand encountered something sharp and cut my finger quite deeply.

The location was good - not far from city centre. The room was spacious, although it was on the second floor, which I had not realised in advance.

Excellent location with good proximity to good restaurants and amenities nearby. Private room with its own lock, and adjacent private bathroom. Very nice and accommodating host, provided me with additional amenities and electrical devices on request.

The shower didn't work, so we had to use the downstairs one. The landlord was there but didn't give us any key so we were dependent on him.
