Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe weren't aware that we could take advantage of the Viking village and surrounding countryside. Unfortunately we had already booked activities so missed out on what qas available.
The place was very good value. After a very long drive the cafe was much appreciated. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

United StatesThe only road to get to the cafe is long, and filled with potholes.
I loved being able to wake up and already be on the beach. We had to leave before breakfast started, so we were unable to take use of the free food.

AustraliaOverall, we enjoyed our stay. This was, however, the most expensive accommodation on our Ring Road trip. While access to Vestrahorn and the Viking Village is a nice inclusion, in our opinion, the value didn’t quite match the cost - but Iceland accommodation is expensive. And of course, price depends on when you visit, supply and demand. There was construction underway, which didn’t bother us, just looked a bit messy getting to the room, perhaps it will feel a little more high-end when this is completed and more 'value for money'.
We stayed in a modern room in the new section, which was nicely decorated and a good size. The room was warm and comfortable, and the staff were very friendly. Having access to Vestrahorn was nice, we captured some amazing photos and enjoyed wandering through the Viking Village, and on the beach for both sunset and sunrise, with only a handful of people around. Breakfast was varied and very good. The café also serves dinner, which we didn’t try, but given the breakfast, it is likely very good. Note, there are no other eating options once you leave Höfn, unless you self-cater, which given there are campervan sites in the car park area, there could be a shared kitchen facility, we just couldn't see it. Kettle in the rooms enabled a warm cup of tea before bed. Note: turn off at dusk can be missed, it's the last right before the tunnel - so once you see the tunnel, start looking for the turn off. There is a sign for the cafe, but it can be missed, as the tunnel draws your attention!

United StatesMy fiancée and I loved staying here! The location is amazing, it's very clean, and it has a great breakfast selection. It's right next to Stokksnes beach, where you also get free access to the area when staying here. Also, after checking out and driving an hour and a half south of the country, we realized we had accidentally taken the guesthouse key. I messaged the staff, and they were extremely friendly and accommodating. We were able to return the key to a nearby hotel instead of driving all the way back to the Vikingcafe. I couldn't recommend this place enough!

United StatesNothing.
Our stay at the Viking cafe and village was great. The staff went above and beyond for us from the moment we arrived. The cafe was closed when we got there but they were nice enough to let us get some of the soup that was still there since we had been traveling all day. The rooms were perfect with an amazing view. When we were leaving after spending sometime in the Viking village and exploring Vestrahorn, we asked if they had water available and they filled all of our water bottles for us.

Loved this place, unfortunately didn’t really get enough time here due to itinerary. Comfortable rooms, great breakfast and exceptional facilities. It’s a bit out of the way but that is the beauty of the location and means more opportunities for seeing the lights (which we did!)

AustraliaWonderful stay at Viking Cafe. Extremely clean room, with comfortable beds, and separate bathroom. Great shower and had all amenities to offer. Kettle and coffee cups in the room which is great to have. Having access to the Vestra horn included in the price of the room, was a bonus and you could go in as many times as you liked. Breakfast was very good with a great variety. An excellent stay.

NetherlandsNot that many options to eat in the evening and quite expensive. A panini with soup is about it.
Comfortable clean room with a great view and coffee/tea making facilities. Excellent breakfast. Love that the outdoor lamp can be turned off to view the northern lights (my room looked west, but good view). Cool reconstructed viking village and nature reserve at walking distance.

United KingdomI visited the Viking cafe last year, before the renovations started and loved the atmosphere of the place. Now it’s being extended I felt it had lost that homely feel. I can understand why it’s being extended due to its popularity and I’m sure it will regain its charm once everything is complete.
The location of the Viking Cafe is great for Vestrahorn and the Viking village. It’s also great if you want to see the northern lights as there’s plenty of dark areas. The staff are really friendly and managed to get us some soup even though we arrived just as they had stopped serving. The new rooms in the guest house were clean and just what we needed especially the comfy bed after a day of travelling.

If you’re looking for a magical stay at the edge of Iceland, the Viking Café & Guesthouse near Höfn is an absolute must. The rooms are cozy, clean, and well‑appointed, with comfortable beds that invite a good night’s rest. Some rooms offer stunning floor‑to‑ceiling patio doors and sweeping views of Vestrahorn, which make waking up here an event. The location is unbeatable — you’re right where nature’s drama unfolds, yet still with all the little comforts that make a trip relaxing. Breakfast is generous and varied — exactly the kind of spread you want before setting out to explore. Fresh fruit, pastries, skyr‑yogurt, maybe even waffles — all served in a setting where you can sip your coffee while gazing at rugged Icelandic landscapes.
