How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewI really enjoyed my stay at Foresteria Valdese. One of the highlights was definitely Claudia at the reception, she truly made my day with her kindness, warmth, and professionalism. After an exhausting trip, she welcomed me so gently and even arranged an early check-in since my room happened to be ready, without any extra charge. Her friendly attitude was one of the happiest parts of our stay. The room was spacious, very clean at the beginning, and well equipped. The bed and blankets were extremely comfortable, and the liquid soaps provided were excellent. Everything worked very well, and I really appreciated the overall calm and pleasant atmosphere of the hotel. The location was also quite good considering the value for money. The stay was ok!
Even though the overall experience was positive, there were a few small things that could be improved. We stayed for about three days, and during that time there was no cleaning service, which was noticeable, especially because it rained a lot and things got dirty more easily after walking outside. The shower had a curtain instead of a glass door, and unfortunately it didn’t stop the water very well, so the bathroom floor often got quite wet. The heater in the room was not working, and on rainy days the air felt cold and humid, I really missed having it, though I didn’t report it to the reception, so I can’t say if they could have done something! Because it’s very useful to help dry some shoes, towels when you put it close! Another inconvenience was the lack of an iron to press clothes, which made things a bit difficult during my stay. Still, apart from these details, everything else worked very well, and I believe the hotel offers good value overall.

It makes us glad to realize when our guests notice and appreciate our efforts to make their arrival and stay pleasant and comfortable. I believe it also has to do with the fact that we love our job and enjoy it most of the time, so it's great to see that we can share our passion for hospitality with some of our guests. Also thank you for sharing your thoughts about the aspects we can improve. We do take them into account, however it is important to point out that we as a company choose not to clean rooms and replace towels daily as an effort to try and protect the environment (even though on a small scale). However we can provide towels, toiletries and daily room cleaning to those guests who request it. As far as the heating is concerned, the local regulations in Florence do not allow to turn on the heating system until November 1st. This is also one of the measures that are taken to slow the climate change. We are not allowed to provide irons to the rooms, nor any kind of equipment that could potentially cause fire. The last point we haven't forgotten about is the shower curtain! We are aware that it definitely is something that requires improvement and we are working on renovating our least modern bathrooms a bit at a time, providing them with a proper walk-in shower cab. Verified reviewIt’s a historical hotel located close to main train station. Walking distance to all the places and museums. The staff is nice and helpful. Hotel has a lot rooms. clean, valued for money.
If the hotel windows overlook the lobby, it may be a bit noisy. The room's soundproofing is not well, one can hear conversations and toilet usage from the neighbouring room.

The street outside our winddow was VERY NOISY well into the early am, like 2:00! We had trouble falling asleep. Seems like that street has a lot of young people meeting and partying between 11pm and 2:00 am, large crowds, loud conversations, engines revving, etc.

Street pedestrians and traffic was a little noisy on the Saturday night. Shower pretty small. No eating/drinking facilities at all (plates, kettle etc).

General decor was tired. The room was small. This accomodation had very much the feel of a hostel rather than a hotel. I don't want to be too down on it as it is only rated 2 Star so expectations should not be too high.

It wasn’t an issue - but this isn’t a typical hotel with full amenities/daily cleaning etc.

Complicated layout and key access took some mental gymnastics to get used to. Felt a bit like a convent with a wheelchair accessible shower(despite the absence of elevator access to our room)
