Honestly, everything was great :)

The hotel was amazing. I stayed in Japan for 16 days and this hotel was my favorite. It was very spacious and aesthetically so beautiful everywhere you went in the hotel. The side rooms for sitting and the super sweet kitchen there was so cute and lovely! Our host was also so welcoming and friendly. He let us stay earlier because the room was ready, everything was very easy to do, and he really helped us with our communication with our next accommodation by calling them for us. My husband really so much appreciated our stay there. Also! The shared bathrooms and toilets were super luxurious and clean, extra shampoos and conditioner there and just overall really great.

The location is about a 15-minute walk to the metro and the main area for restaurants and bars. It was very hot in Kyōto in July during our stay, and this walk to and from the main area was tough! Keep this in mind if you plan to enjoy a lot of the Kyōto food scene but don’t like a long walk.

We loved our stay at Gion Koh. Hiro was a very welcoming and warm host. The accomodation is a charming traditional Japanese house with comfortable rooms and a lovely Japanese courtyard. We had the triple room which was very spacious for a couple, and had excellent air conditioning. Everything was clean and well looked-after. The shared bathrooms were fine - enough for all guests with great showers. The location is in the beautiful historical part of Gion which is very quiet and only a short walk to Yasaka Shrine and the Kodak forest. It’s a perfect place if you want to stay in the more relaxed part of the city and explore the temples and gardens.

There is a slight mould smell in the whole property. I was a little surprised seeing the amount of money I paid. I have stayed at similar properties in Japan where this was not the case.

Location is obviously absolutely superb. The bed is veeeery soft but alright. Its quiet and comfortable in general. Staff is amazing and make you feel welcome and at home. The kitchen is clean and cozy.

Nothing. This is a guesthouse with mostly shared bathrooms but they were never crowded and always clean.

Loved this authentic guesthouse with beautiful Japanese style furnishings and a peaceful courtyard in the middle with koi. Hiro was a fantastic host. Appreciated the common areas - kitchen, sitting room and seats by the pond. Though in the centre of Gion, it was very quiet at night.

The walls are very thin, which is expected in an older house, but unfortunately some guests were inconsiderate of sound. I was kept up all night by a loud Italian couple despite politely knocking on their door—they ignored it, and I did not sleep for one night. It would be helpful if staff reminded guests at check-in to keep noise down at night due to the thin walls. I've seen this done at similar properties in Japan, and it encourages everyone to be more mindful. But this is not the property's fault, sadly some tourists are not respectful of others.

The hotel is absolutely beautiful. It felt very special to stay in a historical house in Gion. The antiques and decor were beautiful. The lounge and outdoor space was beautiful, I wish I had more time to sit in them. The location is fabulous, if you wish to be in Gion. The staff are incredibly kind.

We absolutely loved our stay at GionKoh. Perfect location in the heart of Gion and within walking distance of everything we wanted to do and see in Kyoto. Traditional accommodations with very comfy beds and a wonderful host. Book early as these rooms go quickly.

If you’re looking for an authentic Kyoto experience, this traditional Minka in the heart of Gion is a fantastic choice. The location is unbeatable — steps away from historic streets, temples, and local eateries. Staying here truly feels like stepping back in time, with beautiful wooden interiors and a serene atmosphere that captures old Kyoto perfectly. We loved staying in this beautiful Japanese townhouse. The beds in our room were the most comfortable we slept in during our time in Japan and the room was spacious enough for three people. The shared toilets and showers were clean and we never had to wait to use any of the facilities. The location is amazing and allowed us to wander around the Gion area while quieter in the evenings. The traditional style Japanese garden is beautiful to relax by after a busy day. Hiro has created a wonderful environment to enjoy your holiday and he makes sure you have everything you need.

This place was a highlight on our Japan trip! A charming old-times house in the middle of the most fascinating (and visited) part of Kyoto, and yet it was so peaceful and quiet! The host was super friendly, helpful and welcoming, the facilities were shared but always spotlessly clean, and our room had a view of the interior garden with the pond - it was simply magical!

there are two bath room and two toilets outside the room which is so convenient for groups. Very cosy bed so soft. Everything is so fantastic. Very beautiful garden in the yard.
