How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Verified reviewWarmly welcomed by Thushara, even though we were early and able to leave our tuktuk and bags until our room was ready. Good location with nice 10 minute walk to the beach past restaurants which are geared up for tourists but good prices. Room was good, clean, bed was comfortable, good shower pressure and lovely breakfast. Enjoyed the seating outside the room to sit and relax and the smell of the frangipani trees.

Verified reviewThe villas are as per the photos. Clean spacious and well appointed. Obviously a lot of care and intention has gone into these 2 year old villas. The furniture and fittings were all very good quality and the veranda area pleasant to sit outside and enjoy the fresh air. Communication pre arrival was timely from owner Chamil, and the manager Thushara was very attentive to any of our requests. Breakfasts were very nice with fruits, local foods and toast/jams. Free Tuk Tuk into town (10mins walk) was a bonus and for LKR200 you could get a Tuk Tuk back from Mirissa Beach. Highly recommended and we would stay again. Thank you Coastal Villas for an enjoyable stay.
The shower could have a curtain around it so water doesn't spill over the bathroom floor. And/or a mop to mop excess water away from shower area

Verified reviewWe enjoyed how quiet and peaceful the villa was. The villa had everything we needed in it refridgerator, mosquito nets, tv, kettle, wifi, aircon a cuppboard for clothes.. There was a great space out the front to do daily yoga practice for me. The breaky portions were yummy and great size. It was also wonderful to have a complimentary tuk tuk ride to the main road. The location was close to food shopping tuk tuk ride to coconut hill and secret beach. We also took a tuk tuk to Wilgama beach for some surfing. Thurshara who ran the villas was very nice and accomodating- always smiling. For anyone who wants to stay in a quiet clean nice place in Marissa I recommend here 🤩

Only cold shower It is located directly near an buddhistic temple. Unfortunately there was festival the day and they blasted music until 4am
Dear Marlo, Thank you for your stay and also for the feedback. Anyway please kindly note, there is nothing wrong with the hot water supply of bathrooms. Sometimes after positioning the mixer tap handle to the correct direction, you have to wait around 2 minutes till the hotwater flow starts to the bathroom, from the solar powered hotwater tank located bit away from your room. However if you just informed us this issue during your 4 nights stay, we could have simply solved this matter. The Pirith chanting sound came from the near by buddhist temple happens only once a year during one religious ceremony. During 8 years period after starting of our hotel, this is the very first time we got such a guest complaint. As a solution to this matter, except for bookings we have received before finalizing the date for that religious ceremony of the temple, we think of not accepting booking only on that day, so that to protect and respect to our religious and cultural rituals and on the other hand to ensure a peaceful and relaxing stay to our valued guests. Verified reviewI recently stayed at Coastal Villa in Mirissa with my partner and had a great time. The room was clean, spacious, and had comfortable bedding. The bathroom was also dry and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful, and guided us to have the best experience at this resort. The room service was excellent, and the staff went out of their way to fulfill all our requirements. The food was delicious and offered both spicy and non-spicy options. We loved the authentic Sri Lankan breakfast they provided. The property included a nice garden and free parking I strongly recommend Coastal Villa Mirissa for a lovely and peaceful getaway! The warm hospitality makes you feel at home. You'll have a fantastic time!

Verified reviewI spent one night at a Coastal Villa in Mirissa, and it was one of my best experiences in Sri Lanka. The villa is situated in a calm and quiet area, yet it is within walking distance to both the town and the beach. The rooms are spacious, and the beds were clean and comfortable. The air conditioner functioned well during the extremely hot weather, and the staff were very helpful. Initially, we did not book the room with a meal included, but the staff were accommodating and provided a variety of delicious Sri Lankan dishes on short notice. I decided to extend my stay, and the villa staff easily fulfilled my request. I recommend Coastal Villa to anyone seeking a place to stay in Mirissa.

Verified reviewWe stayed here for 2 nights and the room was big enough for 2 adults and one kid with spacious bathroom and sit area. Located half a kilometre from the beach and good restaurants. Even the in-house food was nice and tasty. Thanks for providing a pleasant stay.

Verified reviewThe room was spacious, airy, nicely decorated, with a/c and with all the necessary furniture.
This is a personal preference, I’m not keen on having the A/C opposite the bed, the chilled draft hit your head at night and it’s not comfortable, we try different settings but it did not help. Also, there are missing some loungers on the terrace.

Verified review- great location around 15 minutes walk to the beach. - extremely quiet! This hotel is on a dead end road and is the quietest place I stayed in while in Sri Lanka - comfortable beds, hot water, clean - they accept credit cards (with a small fee)
- some sheer privacy curtains would have been fantastic! I wanted to open my curtains but felt like I couldn’t due to people being able to walk by at any time

Verified reviewThe positive side of things: great location, away from the traffic and loud bars in town but still a walking distance from the beach. The host was very kind to recommend us a driver to Colombo and direct us to a clinic when someone in the group needed medical assistance. The people looking after the property were happy to assist. With a bit of effort here and there this property has the potential to get the maximum rating.
Slightly unprofessional from the host to repeatedly ask us to provide a maximum rating. We thought an honest review would be more helpful so here it is: The cleaning standard could have been higher, as the rooms were not properly cleaned (taps, wc, mirror, and generally a bit dusty) and had to ask to be cleaned again, which didn’t make much of a difference to be fair. Unless you specifically ask for a variation, the breakfast invariably consists of omlette, fruits and coffee.

On the other hand, definitely we will take in to consideration the comments you mentioned about room cleaning. We will find how it has happened, as we have given proper guidelines to the staff in this regard. We usually serve breakfast in continental and Asian style with some local varieties. However if guests wants to go for some other options, we do so, after discussing with the guest. Verified reviewThe staff were very kind and accommodating. We checked in very late because our safari transport had some delays that we couldn’t control. We arrived late and very tired and the manager was super friendly and kind to us. It’s great value for money and we had a comfortable stay. The manager was around to provide us with extra towels, he offered us coffee and tea and he took care of our bags for us after we checked out.
It was located through a few dark back streets that aren’t really suitable for walking alone. We walked in the day (great distance to all shops, restaurants and the beach) but would recommend getting a tuktuk in the dark especially for female solo travellers. We always felt completely safe and never felt in danger but I wouldn’t have wanted to walk it alone at night. I think the linens could have done with updating and more towels and bathroom towels could have been provided.

Unfortunately, this satisfaction is not rated in your score. Yes we have located in a quiet area, but only few meters away from the main streets . However many guests like this location very much. We are a hotel that practice some sustainability practices. We are always very much care about in saving water and natural resources. At the same time, we take certain measures to limit use of chemicals used for frequent cleaning of linen. We have mentioned these sustainability practices to each guest by way of printed materials. But if a guest wants to deviate from these practices, as mentioned in our printed materials, guest has full right to do so. Our staff is always ready to assist guests at any time. Good luck !
