The location was excellent, by Mahaweli river, just 5 minutes to Peradeniya university hospital. The host is a doctor and his family are running the hotel. The called the day before to check. Ideal and comfortable location for anyone planning a holiday or visiting Peradeniya university or hospital. The hot water shower was an unexpected bonus. The room was as per described in Booking.com. There are stair access to one floor, so if you are unable to climb stairs please ask for a room with direct access.

We chose Varsity Villa because it seemed a smart way of seeing the Kandy Botanical Gardens and then just walking 'home', and also a way to beat the infamous crowds and chaos at Kandy Railway Station in joining the 'Ella Odyssey' the next morning (it is only about 600 meters from Peradeniya Railway Station, where the Odyssey stops twice... you get there by walking along the railway track, which everyone does). It was a very successful choice for both reasons, except that, even with Google Maps, it is easy to walk straight past Varsity Villa without realising it is there! The outside just looks like an extra entry at the side of the local medical centre, and the sign announcing it is not easily noticed. A tiny establishment with what seems like only a couple of rooms for occupancy, but when you get inside, the size of the rooms (our room, anyway) is quite surprising ... this was probably the most spacious room we had anywhere in our 18-day trip. As such, it is extremely good value for money, and we were pleased we had chosen it... even though the town of Peradeniya itself is nothing to write home about (we did love the old railway station, however!)

WiFi was poor in the room, but we only stayed for one night so it wasn't too big a deal. Exposed cables hanging in both the room and bathroom.

Clean, very close to Peradeniya station, decent place to eat next door. Nice view from the room. Shower took a little while to get warm but did eventually!

The Wi-Fi was far too slow for practical use. This was particularly frustrating because mobile network coverage in Kandy is unreliable, making the Wi-Fi a necessity. Unfortunately, it did not perform as needed.

The room was fantastic and the staff went above and beyond to be helpful! My stay at Varsity Villa was excellent. I'm already looking forward to going back for another calm and relaxing experience.

The room I stayed was to the road side. The noise from vehicles was too much. But I understand that the property cannot do anything about it. When the windows are closed the room is sealed. I found it bit difficult since I am a very sensitive person to air quality. So I kept the window a crack open and it solved the issue. But doing so increased the noise from vehicles. May be the property owners can think of providing A/C for the rooms located in the side of the road. However, the space and cleanliness and the friendly staff offset the limitations.

The room was very clean and tidy and the staff was very friendly and supportive.

Peradeniya is quite cold during the rainy season; hot water facilities should be provided in non-AC rooms as well.

The room and washroom are spacious and clean, equipped with a water kettle and tea-making supplies. Thisal, despite his youth, manages guest requests effectively and fulfills all our needs. Parking is limited in this highway area, but they have space for 2 or 3 cars.

Nothing at all

We had a fantastic time during our stay! The place was lovely, with a calm and serene ambiance that made our trip even more enjoyable. The room was spotlessly clean and incredibly comfortable, making it easy to relax after a long day of exploring. The owners were exceptionally nice and friendly, going out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed. We would definitely recommend staying here and look forward to returning in the future ♥️✨

I stayed at Varsity Villa during my visit from Singapore, and it was one of the best parts of my trip. The villa is peaceful and surrounded by beautiful greenery with a stunning view of the Mahaweli River. Every morning, I woke up to fresh air and the sound of birds, which felt like a true escape from city life. The English breakfast was delicious, with perfectly cooked eggs, tasty sausages, and fresh toast that made each morning feel special. The staff were incredibly kind and always ready to help, making me feel at home even though I was in a new country. The location is also very convenient, close to Peradeniya Botanical Garden and the university, with easy access to transport. I highly recommend Varsity Villa to anyone looking for a quiet, comfortable stay in Sri Lanka. I will definitely come back again!

The view is stunning, with riverside and mountain views of Hanthana. The staff was very friendly, and the room was very comfortable, with all the facilities provided as mentioned in the description. There was enough space for almost two cars in the parking area. The place is located between two popular restaurants. My favorite part of the stay was being able to see the night sky while lying in bed, and each morning, the sunlight streamed through the large glass wall onto the bed. It was truly the perfect experience I've had in a long time.

One area that could use improvement is the internet speed (not just in this place, in this whole area), which was a bit frustrating. It might be a good idea to contact the owner if that’s one of your priorities.

I stayed at Varsity Lodge and had a pleasant experience overall. Despite a very late check-in and an early checkout due to some personal incidents, the owner was incredibly flexible and accommodating. Me and my family stayed in two air-con rooms for two nights, and I must say that the rooms were spotless, with the bathrooms, beds, and air conditioning all in excellent condition. It was a comfortable stay.

The room was impeccably clean, spacious, and well-appointed with all the modern amenities I could need. The location is perfect—close to major attractions but still quiet enough for a peaceful retreat. The highlight of my stay was the exceptional service; every request was handled promptly and with a smile. I highly recommend varsity lodge to anyone looking for a luxurious and relaxing stay.
