How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWe stayed there just over a week - our hosts were very helpful & considerate - we loved it & will certainly return .
Perhaps more light at the entrance as the approaching alley is quite dark & uneven .

Verified reviewThe hosts were extremely friendly and helpful and the breakfast the made was one of the best we had in Marokko. The room was very pitoresque and comfortable, soundproof, with great beds and a large shower and the location in the city was nothing less than perfect. Close to the beach, in a not too chaotic part of the medina. An absolute reccomendation
It was a little bit hard to find the front door using google maps. A sign in the street next to it might help. But besides that: all good! Very good actually!

Verified reviewCentrally located. Easy to find. They gave good instructions. Friendly staff (unfortunately they don’t speak many words English). Beautiful building.
Uncomfortable bed. No sound proofing. Something like church bell rings around the clock on weird times. I woke up also at night. On wintertime really cold in the room. Electric heater would be needed. Staff only there in mornings. You can’t ask anything if you need something. Steep stairs. Difficult with a suitcase. (I couldn’t find anyone to help when I left.)

Verified reviewThe location was perfect, and my room had access up into the roof terrace which was a real plus with fantastic 360 views. Comfortable room and bed. Breakfast on the upper terrace. The cooking lesson with Hayat was a highlight.

Verified reviewLocation was excellent. Breakfast good. Decoration great.
Upon entering the B and B, we immediately noticed a musty smell which also prevailed in our room.
Dear Carla, we thank you for your review. We are glad that you liked it overall. We are sorry for the smell, Essaouira is indeed a very humid city. Best regards, Madeleine

Verified reviewRachid has been so helpful and nice to help us to find the place, he showed us everything, the terrace and the bedroom. He was very nice still at the end when we had a problem to pay and helped us to contact the owners and solve the problem. The place is very well located in the center of Essaouira.

Verified reviewClose to parking and port
This hotel is example of tradition at the price of comfort. Very narrow but cold room, kitchen without coffee/tea, to get to/from bed need to use steep stairs, matter of time when someone will fall. WiFi or 3g not working on the bed. Mirrors at bathroom are at very low height
This comment, unusually negative and obviously biased, comes from someone who did not declare a 4-year-old child and therefore had to occupy an apartment unsuitable for a family. Clearly, this kind of people should better going in Sofitel-like hotels.

Verified reviewTucked away down an alley behind a smart hotel, just inside the medina and a couple of minutes from the sea and the souks. Lovely riad; our room was spacious, with cooking facilities and a huge bed on a mezzanine. Several terraces to sit out on, with fine views of the town and the sea from the roof terrace - perfect for watching the sunset. Good breakfast prepared and served in the downstairs kitchen by Latifa. She and Rachid were there when needed, and were very helpful. Essaoira is a great town to chill out in, especially if you are coming from the madness of Marrakech.
Nothing.

Verified reviewVery clean riad, a lot of attention was given to the cleanliness and we had fresh towels every day. Breakfast was nice. The bed was huge and very comfortable. Well equipped kitchen if you wanted to cook. We were able to leave our bags on check out day to save lugging them around. Well located for the harbour and the Medina. Staff were helpful and friendly.
The bells! I'd read reviews about the bell ringing and thought it would be fine but it is super annoying, it rings every 15 minutes even through the night 😳. I imagine you can hear it from many riads in the Medina, not just at this property There was also quite a bit of noise from evening entertainment but we like to go to bed early, it probably wouldn't bother most people. The riad is at the end of a dark alley so it's a little intimidating at first...all of the riads we stayed in were down alleys so that wasn't particularly unusual, it was just that it was a dead end and dark (during the day, it's lit at night) I wouldn't let that put you off but it's nice to know what to expect.

Verified reviewA traditional Riad in the Medina. Fantastic location, walking distance to beach and port. Interesting to be living the traditional way in a charming room. Good breakfast with homemade yoghurt and “crepes”, breads, honey and spreads, coffee and a choice of teas prepared by Latifa.
No cupboards or wardrobe. However we managed with the hook on the wall and the shelves and felt that we were experiencing the local customs. Steep narrow stairs up to the bed

Verified reviewWe stayed here for 3 nights and we wish, we would have had more time here. For us, everything was perfect: a spacious and beautifully decorated and very clean room with everything we needed - there was even a small kitchen! Our room was cleaned and the bed was made every morning, which we appreciated a lot. The Dar Lazuli has many shared spaces, each of them thoughtfully decorated and to make the guest feel cozy and at home. The view from the rooftop is stunning - especially at sun set! The location is perfect - in the old town of Essaouira, but only 5 mins from a parking (if needed). Rachid, who is running the house, is very kind and helpful and we felt very welcome. We can 100% recommend and would stay here again next time. Thank you!
