How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewAbsolutely fantastic stay! The staff were amazing — always friendly and ready to help with anything we needed. The location is perfect, right by the medina, and the riad itself is spotless. The décor is absolutely beautiful, and breakfast was exceptional, easily the best we’ve had in Morocco. Couldn’t recommend it highly enough — we’ll definitely be back next time we’re in Essaouira!
That we couldn't stay any longer!

Verified reviewEverything was very well maintained and clean, with a lovely courtyard. Friendly staff. The shower pressure was very good, which isn't something to be taken for granted.
The riad is located outside the medina, but directly behind the city walls, which I hadn't realized beforehand. The bed in my room wasn't my cup of tea; I personally found the mattress too firm. There's no permanent reception, meaning there aren't always staff on site; you're given a key.
RIAD LOCATED OUTSIDE THE MEDINA our mattresses are of good quality and chosen expressly to avoid humidity in your beds. Before accepting the room you have visited it. But I think that Morocco is not made for you Mr. We are a small riad and do not have the means of a luxury hotel to hire more staff. here is an eternal dissatisfied person who had a problem with all his reservations. Next time choose a country like Dubai

Verified reviewThis place is a 10. One of the most beautiful places we’ve ever stayed. It’s a traditional Moroccan riad, lovingly renovated and decorated with so much care. The rooms are lovely, the showers great, and the whole building has such a special charm - all in a perfect location in Essaouira. They also serve the best breakfast we had in Morocco - everything, from the coffee to the eggs, is prepared with so much love and attention. The two people working on the reception, Laila and Simo, were a huge part of what made our experience so special. From the very first moment, Laila was incredibly professional, yet warm and kind. She made sure we felt at home right away, explaining everything about the riad and sharing helpful tips about Essaouira - what to see, what to skip, and how to truly enjoy the city. Thanks to her recommendations, we had several amazing local experiences that we’re so grateful for and will never forget. Simo was equally wonderful - kind, genuine, and full of beautiful energy. We had such nice conversations with him, and he also shared great insights and suggestions about the city. Both of them carry the true Moroccan spirit in their hearts, and we couldn’t have been happier - they were the perfect hosts. We wish them both all the success in the world and hope our paths cross again someday. Inshallah :) Much love, Danilo and Matilda
The soundproofing in the room wasn’t perfect as we could hear other guests coming and going during the night, but it didn’t bother us too much. The only real downside? We wish we could have stayed longer! :)

Verified reviewA lovely and quiet Riad just outside the Medina walls with absolutely wonderful staff, especially Laila and Sami who made the experience! It's beautiful, atmospheric, convenient for the beach and the medina, and a little less touristy than other Riads. Great recommendations, warm welcome, loved the decor and the rooftop. Wish we could have done the tagine experience.
The surrounds are a little grotty, down an alley, bordered by car rental places and a garage, but great if you want a more authentic experience of Essouira and how people live.

Verified reviewLoved the Riad, clean with amazing decor. The room was spacious with everything we needed. We didn’t try the breakfast because we left very early in the morning, but the prepared some fruits and packaged biscuits for us to take away.
The staff felt a bit intimidating. We received an email once we booked, stating that we should arrive to the Riad with a “pleasant face” and that they are not responsible for our past bad experiences - isn’t it obvious? Upon arrival, we were seated in front of them, almost like in an interview, while a young staff member explained the house rules supervised by the owner. The owner frequently corrected her in French whenever something wasn’t phrased exactly as she wanted. There were quite a few rules—like not slamming doors or windows and avoiding oil stains or henna on the bedsheets—but they were mostly just common-sense guidelines. That said, the young lady explaining the rules was very sweet, and it was clear she was simply following the owner’s instructions. She also gave us plenty of helpful recommendations for restaurants and places to visit, which we really appreciated. Unfortunately, despite her kindness, we felt a bit uncomfortable during the whole stay.
Initially I wrote a long comment. But it's not even worth it. length of stay of this person one night without breakfast. Didn't have time to discover the staff

Verified reviewLovely riad right next to the medina. From the start we were welcomed by the staff & owners (Simo, Erik and Carole), who were just lovely people. The rooms were very clean, comfertable beds and nice bathrooms. The roofterrace is a good place to relax and play games. Breakfast was delicious. Practically a perfect stay when visiting Essaouira in my opinion!
Nothing really

Verified reviewThe riad is in a very good location. The breakfasts were big and delicious and the Moroccan staff were very nice and hospitable.
The room didn't have any bedside lamps, and the towels were quite small. The room didn't have A/C, but it wasn't really needed and to be fair, it was not listed on the page, but seemed to be standard in other places we stayed. The passive aggressive message sent on booking really put us off and made us feel initially uncomfortable about the stay, like we were liable to be told off or charged extra. The message explicity said "we are not professionals" - if so, you shouldn't be running a business and charging a " professional" rate. I also didn't like that there would be an extra fee if we checked in after 6pm. Overall the stay was similar to others we had in Morocco, and the staff were all very friendly.

Verified reviewThe hotel is a very beautiful place run by great staff who are doing their best to accommodate guests. Our room was great, we even had a small desk to use. Bathroom was well maintained. The common room where we go our breakfast is beautiful too. The hotel is located just outside the old city (medina) which might help in the noisy nights to have a more quiet night at this hotel. Its even close to the beach.
Its quite expensive as a hotel compared to other places which are great too. Its a bit noisy outside, but that is not their fault. We got a super unfriendly message after booking this hotel making sure that guests will not complain because of unmet expectations. After getting this e-mail we were actually worried to stay there, we had expected very unfriendly staff, but luckily the staff was super friendly and helpful.
We understand very well that this message seems a little harsh to you but put yourself in our place, we are here every day with a smile even if each of us has our personal problems. and welcoming vacationers who are unpleasant or who have not taken the time to read their reservation is annoying for us too. sorry ! 😞 And for the noise it's exact from mid June to the end of August it's very noisy It bothers me too I understand

Verified reviewA clean, comfortable, and quiet riad just a few minutes away from Mdina. From the moment we arrived, the staff gave us great recommendations on what to see and do in Mdina. It's conveniently located near a parking area, which made things even easier. The rooftop is a peaceful spot—perfect for enjoying the sunset and even spotting seagulls flying by. Breakfast was on another level—beautifully presented and truly satisfying. A perfect start to the day. Highly recommended!
