How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Thea, the hostess, was very friendly and explained all the options around St Lucia to us with a map to guide us. The extra add-ons like beach towels, the use of cooler boxes with ice bricks and the option to hire snorkels and gazebos, were unexpected and a great option depending on activities planned.

Everything! Very nice and cosy house. Thea is very welcoming and friendly as all the staff. The buffet breakfast really worth it and the day we went early for a game drive Thea had prepared a nice take away breakfast. You feel like home at St Lucia Hilltop Guest House! Thank you Thea and the team, we recommend that place 100%!

Super efficient host, very friendly and helpful. Quick to fix any issues/questions. Lovely location with exceptional breakfast. Room was great with access to pool area. Quiet location. We had an early departure and Thea organized some delicious breakfast packs for us. Nothing was too much trouble

It was all good!
I booked two rooms here for family members, yet I stayed next door because neither property had room for our family group of 12. I'm leaving a review to commend and thank Thea for her help with booking our rooms, our return (round-trip) transfer from the Durban airport (KSIA) to St Lucia and to dinner in St Lucia every night we were there, and especially with booking our half day trip to Isimangaliso Wetlands Park and Cape Vidal, our hippo and crocodile cruise in St Lucia, and our full-day trip to Hluhluwe-Imfalozi National Park. She responded promptly and cheerfully through WhatsApp to all my queries, sometimes even with a voice message that I found charming. She took care of every possible detail and all our arrangements were perfect. We had written to each other so much that I felt like she was an old friend by the time we arrived. The property itself is lovely and even has a small gift shop and some drinks and snacks available for purchase. Our family members loved their rooms and reported that breakfast was delicious.

There was nothing whatsoever to dislike.
Absolutely everything! A very warm welcome from Thea who gave us lots of local information and tips for restaurants. Great host. Extremely comfortable bed, fabulous shower and excellent facilities. Superb breakfast with high quality ingredients.

The wifi reception was sometimes not the best. For us that wasn't really an issue but I guess that's something certain people could complain about.
Very nice host who also proactively offered to do bookings for activities for us. Breakfast was also very very good, especially the omelet was the best I ever had in my life!

Honestly nothing, it was a first class experience from beginning to end.
Exceptional stay, the host Thea was incredible - nothing was too much trouble. She organised all our day trips and made us feel so welcome.
