we had breakfast included in our stay, but once you amend it, add an egg, or change anything , you pay for it. Both days i ordered a cortado instead of a cuppacino and was charged for it.. I didnt even have a juice.. very dissappointed in how this was handled and so unnecessary.

The rooms are beautiful and comfortable. The room staff did a great job in cleaning our room and preparing it for the evening. Location is great and parking always available

The property is right on the beach with a relaxed atmosphere. The breakfast and lunch was delicious. The staff are super helpful and friendly. The chef insisted on making us dinner when we returned after closing time. The minibar and extra treats were a welcome bonus. Parking on property available.

Nothing but I wish the sea had been clean enough to swim in and the beach was not littered with plastic. Not at all the fault of the hotel.

Incredible view from the room. Very helpful staff and quiet spot away from the bedlam of Umhlanga. Coffee was great! Always a good sign.

The proximity to the ocean is so special, waking to the ocean views and sounds. The staff are so attentive and the property feels glam but also relaxed.

They were not flexible with my request. My booking included breakfast because of the kids. I did inform that I personally do not eat breakfast and would like them to transfer the fee to a lunch or dinner voucher which are meals that I do take. This request was not entertained. Also, the owners spend all their time in the restaurant or around working. I found this to be very awkward, as if we were being watched. Maybe a back office for the owners would be great so that they are not always in the guests faces like the whole time. I mean they already have the Manager and the Finance lady sitting at the front desk so to have the owners there as well was awkward.

The views were just awesome! Beautiful property with gorgeous sights from every angle! The majority of the staff were friendly and attentive! The male staff kept the boys entertained and even played soccer with them. The cleaning ladies were wonderful and left the rooms in tip top condition. We had lots of water in the room. The rooms were neat and comfortable. Everything was neat and in working order which made our stay great. The owners were friendly enough and had the friendlies little boy there to play with my boys which was nice. The lady owner was kind enough to borrow me her laptop charger which I really appreciated! She offered us some entertainment for the kids in the area as she was aware that there is not much for the kids to do. The evenings were great as there were no crowds in the restaurant. The property is in a safe area and also well maintained.

Reception/ manager states breakfast to be from 7:00, but kitchen is only ready at 7:30 that resulted in us missing one morning's breakfast. Miscommunication between staff, it seems.

As an architect I was pleasantly at all the details of this lovely hotel. The rooms were amazing, the views just incredible, the attention to detail- and the staff‘s effort to make us feel welcome and comfortable was really nice.

Only one welcome piece of cake in a room booked for two... The peaks of the covering in the garden partially block the view from the first floor bedroom. There was no hot water for shower or bath in the morning and a leak appeared in the middle of the floor.

The design of this place has put the guest first, very well thought out. The location has spectacular views, quite literally on the beach. Very friendly staff. Hot chocolate was lovely and the breakfast was delicious.

Because i booked for one person only, my room was quite small with no desk to work from.

Just a few metres from the beach, this accommodation offers the perfect blend of luxury and relaxation. I enjoyed so many things about my stay here! North Star is a great balance between vibey and peaceful; not too big, not too small; not too simple, not too fancy! I've stayed here before and this is now my go-to venue for visits to Umhlanga / Durban-North. The pool and bar area are very inviting as are the gardens - for me the place is more beautiful than the website photos show. I loved the upstairs rooms - the views are wonderful. Service was great, and the place is fresh and clean. Much love and care invested in the venue. Easy access to highways and many parts of Durban, and great beach access.
