Lovely staff which took very good care of us, amazing onsen, superb ryokan breakfast

Located in 15-minute bus ride from JR Takayama Station, Guest House & Cafe SOY is surrounded by lush greenery. Free WIFi is provided and free private parking is available on site. The property also provides free pick-up service from JR Takayama Station. Free shuttle bus service is available when check-in, check-out, after dinner. Everything. This was the most perfect place to stay. It had a peaceful feel and the restoration done by Tai and his family was beautiful. 12/10.

Reopened after renovation in 2022, Auberge Hidanomori is situated in quiet hills, a 10-minute shuttle ride from JR Takayama Station. The property offers free WiFi access in rooms and in public areas including the shared TV lounge and the terrace. The owner/chef and staffs were all incredibly welcoming. The feeling of total peace and serenity was indescribable. Also, the fact that there was no television in the room, lets you truly enjoy the nature that surrounds you.

Located just a 1-minute walk from popular Miyagawa Morning Market in the heart of Takayama, Sumiyoshi Ryokan offers homely Japanese-style accommodation in the historic townhouse building. Free WiFi is available at the lobby and guestrooms. This hotel was selected as one of the Top 25 B&Bs and Inns in Japan by TripAdvisor's Travelers' Choice Award 2015.

Rooms are fitted with tatami (woven-straw) flooring and traditional futon bedding. A low table and a TV with satellite channels are provided. Guests can relax in the room with free green tea. Such a wonderful stay at Sumiyoshi Ryokan, from the beautiful interiors to the delicious food, the lovely family running the inn, the private onsen, the location - perfection.

Guests can relax at the traditional garden and enjoy night views of the city from the observatory. A billiard table and table tennis facilities are available for guests to spend their time. Local products can be purchased at the souvenir shop. Free WiFi is available throughout the property. It was an amazing experience. There wasn't an information about shuttle bus service and local city on the booking, but it is very convenient things. Car rent is not necessarily. Food was delicious, souvenirs are the same price as in the town. Onsen is great. Property itself has many places to walk around. There is also small market and Gero Onsen Gassho Village- nice places to visit

A 3-minute drive from JR Gero Train Station, Izumi-so offers Japanese-style rooms, an indoor and an open-air natural hot spring bath and Japanese cuisine. The hotel houses a souvenir shop and drinks vending machines. Free parking is available, and a free pick-up can be requested from the station. My husband and I had an incredible experience at Izumi-So. Facilities were clean, owners were welcoming and incredibly friendly and hospitable. Highly recommend !

Set amid a beautiful landscape in Okuhida Onsengo hot-spring area, Yamazatonoiori Soene offers beautiful rooms in a Japanese style with river or garden views. The property is 80-munite bus ride from JR Takayama Station, and Fukuchi Yurimizaka (HO41) bus stop is a 3-minute walk away.

Guests can relax in the indoor and outdoor baths with its natural hot spring water. Kashikiri (private baths) are also available and can be reserved for free. There are 3 private onsens with an indoor and outdoor area, as well as 4 shared onsens, 2 for men and 2 for women. All of them are wonderful. The rooms are also spacious and clean. The highlight was definitely the excellent dinner. The area of Hirayu Onsen is out of the way, but well worth the trip if you want to get out of the city for a bit.
