Even though the house is over 120 years old, it’s new inside and there are lots of digital devices like digital door locks to make you feel safe and comfortable. The room is big and the bathroom is super clean. It’s unnecessary to worry about sharing the bathroom with others because you can reserve the time to use it. Staffs are friendly too. We also met a cat staff who required some treats and would love to play with us : )

The city of Manazuru is quite small, but nice to walk around. The apartment is a bit away from the main station, but that can be walked. The view from the balcony is nice.

I particularly loved the common areas. There were lots of extras that you wouldn't find in other places, e.g. many different coffee and tea options, all free of charge. It would be very easy to self-cater here as there is a full kitchen, plus large fridge and freezer. It's a beautiful place

The hotel is in a beautiful location, it's very quiet and the view from my room was stunning. It was easy to reach from the train station (I was travelling without a car), only a short walk of about 10min. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The service really is excellent even if they say that not all of them speak English very well. The room is spacious and has a nice tatami area. The private onsen is small and the room a bit dark but it was still a nice experience. I really enjoyed the open air onsen though. It was my first experience in an onsen and I loved it. Overall I enjoyed my stay here very much. It is a fantastic place to relax and slow down a little.

It is perfect for anyone seeking an authentic, traditional Japanese experience! The location is beautiful, dinner and breakfast served in the (very spacious) tatami room were delightful just be careful if you don't like it because there is no alternative! The team very attentive, friendly and kind making effort to explain the procedures in English using app translator. We tried the indoor Onsen reserved for our family and it was a really nice experience although we are not used to such hot water. You have a lot to visit in Hakone and the ryokan location is very convenient and if you do not want to take the bus you will have to walk 15 min to Hakone main train station although you have nearer Tonosawa Station for local "mountain" train (very scenery walking)

We had such a comfortable stay! The staff were super kind and helpful. I love Japanese hot springs and don’t mind sharing, but my partner prefers more privacy, so we booked a room with a private bath. The public bath also allows guests with tattoos, which was great for us since we both have a few fashion tattoos—it felt really open and welcoming. We enjoyed the high-quality hot spring both in the public bath and in our room. They even have historic rooms designated as Important Cultural Properties, and we’d love to try staying in one of those next time!

Such an amazing stay, definitely our favorite of the trip. Highly recommend staying in a traditional ryokan for the experience when in Japan. Design enthusiasts will love the aesthetics of this place, and the owner greets you and checks you in (he's a New York City fashion school graduate!). They give complimentary souvenir hand towels as well as traditional robes - so cool. And a friendly house cat on premises too.

Such a charming property to experience living in a real and old Japanese house and sleeping on futons. The communal toilets and baths (you have to book bath timings for your room) were not as inconvenient as expected, and it was an interesting experience. If travel is all about new experiences, Ryokan Plum is a great choice! A short 10-min walk from Odawara Station, where there are buses and trains to Hakone.

Gorokichi the mascot cat, codes to get in the hotel and room, provided yukata and slippers are very nice, ryokan prioritizes local goods (tea, coffee, yukata are all locally made), access to terrace, rooms are luxury quality, powerful AC, clean floors, clean rooms, large trash disposal area in lobby, shared kitchenette with dishes and microwave provided, mini fridge, western bed available
