Next to the entrance to the castle park, near Hakucho promenade (shortcut to Kenroku’en garden and Ishikawa gate), near Ōmichō fish market, and not far from the Higashi Chaya geisha area) Perfect tatami room and very clean Japanese bathroom with a hot bath to relax.

Rooms have a tatami (woven-straw) floor and low furniture. Some offer beds, while other rooms come with traditional futon bedding. All rooms are fitted with air conditioning, a flat-screen TV and a fridge. Yukata robes are provided. They took care of us in the moment we arrived, took our luggage, and also my wife vegetarian so they took care of her in our meals. The food was great, it was a lot of food🤣🤣 The onsen was clean.

The guesthouse is about 2 minutes walking from Higashiyama district and another 2 minutes walking from the river promenade. If you like walking you can also walk to Kenrokuen (about 20 minutes). We didn't use the bus while being there. The guesthouse decoration is lovely. It feels like stepping into a museum! :D You can tell that the hosts really love their house and they want everything to be perfect :D Finally, the hosts are very nice and helpful!! From the shuttle that met us at the train station, to Natalie explaining all different courses of kaiseki, to the owners welcoming us. We really appreciated the tranquility the room offered. We had a great view of the garden from our balcony. The private onsen was the icing on the cake. It was the most relaxing thing, we used it 4 times during our one day stay. All in all, I was looking for a traditional Japanese experience and Matsusaki did not disappoint.
