The host was super friendly and nice, the meals were very tasty (both dinner and breakfast), and the atmosphere was really calm & relaxing. We also enjoyed the private Onsen. The location is great - just near the lake and only a 5 minute walk from the bus stop. Great value for money!

Hotel Hanaan ligt in Nikko, op 15 km van schrijn Nikko Toshogu en 17 km van station Tobu Nikko. Elke accommodatie bij de ryokan met 4 sterren heeft uitzicht op het meer en gratis WiFi. Staff was extremely friendly and able to fully correspond in English. Dinner and breakfast were both beautiful, unique and delicious. They really cater to making the most of the regional Tochigi cuisine and specialties. Room was clean and all the amenities were well though out and high quality. The room with the open air bath was well worth it alone so everything else was a bonus. I did not check out the public bath due to tattoo policy.

I was originally interested in this hotel because I read that the Onsen had a Museum full of Kishio Suga's work. I had been following this amazing Japanese artist for a number of years... so that fact was a deciding factor for me. But, the Onsen, the staff, the care that we felt they put into everything they did, the atmosphere of the place, the gardens also designed by Kishio Suga, the delightful guests we had the pleasure of meeting, our room and the food we were served - and let's not forget the tour of the museum! - made me love this place. Itamuro Onsen Daikokuya has history. Someone told us that the Onsen was 500 years old. Most of the Japanese guests we met there went to purely relax. The kind and capable staff take amazing care of all the guests: A Japanese friend in Tokyo told me I should celebrate the Winter Solstice while I was in Nasushiobara. She explained that on that one day, it had always been traditionally celebrated by putting YUZU fruit in Japanese baths and eating something made of pumpkin. I asked the hotel about all this. I really don't think it was part of their plan... but, they did it all: the YUZU in the baths and the specially prepared Pumpkin desserts. It was all to please us, their guests, and make sure our stay was perfect. I was so grateful and felt so pampered and happy. I enjoyed that fruit in the Japanese bath more than you can imagine. So, If you want to relax in a beautiful Onsen with history, go see great art at the. Suga museum, to have a beautiful experience,and be pampered in a very Japanese sort of way...you must come to Itamuro Onsen Daikokuya.

Established in 1666, Honke Bankyu is housed in a registered historical building. The Japanese rooms feature traditional decor, futon bedding and a flat-screen TV. We had a lovely room with a view of the river and cozy futons. The onsen were excellent, especially the private ones, and we enjoyed the Kaiseki dinner and the breakfast. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. We really loved our stay and would definitely like to come again.

I selected this place because I read other reviews about the eclectic unique nature of the hotel and atmosphere. I wasn’t disappointed, in fact it exceeded my expectations in every way. The moment you arrive and are greeted warmly by the staff and handed a free drink of your choice, sets the tone for a wonderful experience ahead. The room was huge, warm, comfortable and very special in its minute details of architecture. We chose a river view room and I would highly recommend doing so as the massive picture window overlooks the forest and mountains and is simply breathtaking in the morning sunrise. This hotel was designed with careful thought given to every detail in its creation, with the mindset of creating a restful respite from the modern busy world we live in today. It has achieved this goal in my opinion and then some. We had the honour and pleasure of meeting the architect the second day we stayed and had a conversation with him about his wonderful hotel, he is such a joy to speak with. The food was also an absolute delight, huge filling and varied items at breakfast, and sumptuous selections and pairings at dinner. The staff are The best of anywhere we have stayed so far in Japan, and are gracious and smiling all the time. We speak very limited Japanese but this was never a problem so don’t worry about this as a barrier for coming here. We wouldn’t hesitate to come back and I was sorry I had to leave. This hotel, and Nikko is such a special beautiful place everyone should see it once if they can. Thank you shelter garden and staff for allowing me to have such a warm, restful and wonderful stay at your gorgeous hotel, and thank you so much for all your warmth and hospitality.

Iizukatei is gelegen in Nakagawa, op 10 km van aquarium Nakagawa, en biedt accommodatie met gratis fietsen, gratis privéparkeren en een tuin. Easily the best part of my trip was staying here. I felt like a mixture of an esteemed guest, friend and family while staying here. The hospitality and meticulous care of the staff, especially Maylene, the friendliness of the locals and the beauty of the hotel grounds and overall surrounding nature made for the perfect stay. My hotel room was like an apartment to myself and it was so clean, the beds were the most comfortable bed I’ve slept on, the floor has a heat option, there’s a mini kitchen (I didn’t get to cook anything though) and the shower was great and also has a tub for you to soak in too! They also give guests a yukata to wear! Every day I got a platter of fresh seasonal fruits and veggies sourced locally. They gave an option of a western or Japanese breakfast (I opted for the Japanese) and even how they served it and displayed it to you was meticulous. Food was delicious! They gave an option for a half day or a full day trip where staff can drive you around to different sites and experiences around the area. They have great recommendations (also make sure to read the material they provided you so you get a better idea on what you’d like to do). I did a soba making class and had a private onsen experience. The prices were fair for all the things I asked to do and see during my half day. They would also personally take me to restaurants and speak with them to help with the language barrier. It’s the countryside so the immediate town around was small but there’s still some things to sight see and eat; I spent one of my days just walking around and exploring town. I had food poisoning before coming here and I was literally nursed back to health here with the fresh food and the staff checking in on me all the time. If you’re hesitating, I’d say book this place for 1-3 nights at least. It’s a little far out but when are you ever going to stay in a historical 200 year old renovated complex in the beautiful countryside of Japan? You won’t regret it.
