Minobu
At the ryokan, each unit has a tatami. Some accommodation includes a terrace with garden views, a fully equipped kitchen and a private bathroom with bidet. The units are equipped with heating facilities. Our expectations from this stay were far exceeded in spite of our curiosity for our very first experience in a temple lodging. After a week in Tokyo, we quickly adapted to Japanese politeness, but here, in the Temple, we really felt as a part of a family. We felt kind of blessed in this magic place, not only with the Temple, but also in the surroundings: the magnificent garden and hundred-years-old cedar forests embracing this holy place. At the dawn, we were invited to a God's service to another Temple in proximity – Kuon-ji with Buddhist chants and prayers. The hosts of Kakurinbo prepared delicious dinners and breakfasts: they presented new and sometimes unusual meals for us. They were also very flexible with our changing plans and prepared yummy onigiri for our trip instead of breakfast. We were also offered some activities during our one week stay: copying sutra (calligraphy), morning prayers in Kuon-ji, morning yoga, excursion in a paper making manufactory, making Buddhist bead bracelet, tea ceremony, trying on wedding kimonos and kintsugi. There was a small festival of the Temple for guests which we enjoyed. The hosts also helped us a lot when picking us up at the train station in the evening when taxis were not available. The whole place of Minobu was calm and friendly with a few shops and Zencho café (run by the proprietors of the Temple lodging) offering delicious Japanese and European food. The Temple is a great starting point for short mountain hikes: you can take a cable car to the Minobu mountain and walk down through cedar forests full of ancient shrines. In a clear day, you can observe Mt.Fuji from the top of Mt.Minobu. The stay in the Kakurinbo Temple refreshed our body and soul. Even a month later, our experiences feel as if we were still there and we would be happy to return one day.

The hotel is amazing. We had a hot bath which was perfect after a day of walking. The staff were very professional and friendly. The traditional breakfast and dinner (which was included in our booking) were an amazing experience. They bring you a lot of food and we ended up so full 😄 they have public and private onsen. We tried the private onsen and we recommend people to try it :) the view of Mt. Fuji and the lake on the roof is amazing. The room came with the tatami floor and the room was huge. 100% recommend
This is the best hotel I’ve ever stayed at. My boyfriend worked at 5-star hotels in the past and even he said the service at this hotel was impeccable. We were very lucky to see Mt Fuji from our room and the private onsen. We also loved the traditional Japanese room, the dinner and breakfast selection and being able to wear the yukata provided by the ryokan. Definitely the most authentic Japanese experience of our trip. We wish we had stayed longer than just one night. We will be back at this ryokan every time we visit Japan from now on.
Everything! It was a beautiful, traditional style Japanese inn with lovely tatami mats and futons to sleep on. It was like being taken back through time and was amazing to experience a real taste of japan.
Most comfortable futons we had in Japan, owner upgraded us to a larger room with a direct view of Mt Fuji for free since we were the only guests in the ryokan. Free hot drinks and the hottest onsen bath imaginable, really rejuvenating. Wonderful hospitality with free yukata loan, 360 views of the lake and mountain from the roof terrace, and the breakfast was delicious. Great facilities and good location.
Really beautiful location as the photos show. This is a traditional Japanese inn (ryokan), which means traditional-style rooms with sliding doors, tatami mats, and futon bedding; a (nude) bathhouse within the hotel facilities; and in our case, a full traditional dinner and breakfast. This is the iconic ryokan experience! I would certainly recommend Ururun Kawaguchiko to anyone else travelling to Japan, and if you can't make it here I would strongly recommend trying to find and stay in a ryokan somewhere else for at least one night.
Excellent place to stay and relax. Each of the rooms have an outdoor onsen bath, and an indoor wet room with a bathtub and shower. The futons are placed on tatami mats. You are provided pajamas to sleep and Yukata to walk around the Ryokan and the area if you want to. The dinner and breakfast are Kaiseki style.
I was a fun to get a ryokan experience, wear a yukata and sleep on a futon.
perfect stay for anyone who wants to experience a ryokan. it was well stocked with amenities, and they even provided a yukata to wear for the onsen! we liked that we could use the onsen privately for 30 minutes max. each time. the host was very warm and welcoming. i was really looking forward to seeing mt. fuji from our room but the weather did not permit unfortunately :( wish we could’ve stayed longer because the weather had cleared up the next day!!!
Location- across from station and bus Short walk to food and sights Futons and Tatami mats Lovely onsen with Mt Fuji views
Location right by the Yagizaki Parc, on the shore of Lake Kawaguchi, but most important with an absolutely stunning view on the Mount Fuji. Hotel is designed like a Ryokan: rooms with Tatami mats, comfortable futons as beds, shared bathrooms with small Onsen, optional breakfast (changes by day between Japanese and western style).
