Very close to the bus station, we stopped here on our way from Matsumoto to Takayama. Japanese-style room (ryokan), on the table a Japanese tea set (a teapot and bowls) with good sencha tea is waiting. The available natural hot springs are a great place to rest and relax. Meals in an atmospheric atmosphere in a yakuta with haori. Dinner is really delicious, quite decent fine dining. Breakfast is equally good.

Reopened after renovation in 2022, Auberge Hidanomori is situated in quiet hills, a 10-minute shuttle ride from JR Takayama Station.

Auberge Hidanomori is one of the gems of Takayama. It is a fantastic property, with beautiful rooms and 2 private onsens. Very friendly/helpful staff, and the meals were some of the best we had in Japan. Fantastic pairings!

Exceptional Hotel. There is a train cars placed next to the hotel, where staff hang a flags of nations of the guests - that was super nice gesture, we loved it! The staff is very welcoming and helpful overall. Rooms and facilities are very clean and nice. We were assigned to Japan style room - great exeprience. Onsen is specious and you have a freedom to use Japan style onsen or mixed with large baths and sauna. Breakfast was very tasty and included multiple items. Window view was great: forest, mountains and waterfall (from one side of hotel). Overall great experience and highly recommended.

The tatami floors complemented the elegant paper shoji screens, allowing soft, diffused light to fill the space. As for the dinner, it was a feast for both the eyes and the palate. Each dish was artfully arranged, showcasing vibrant colors and intricate presentations. The flavors were carefully balanced, with every bite revealing layers of taste that celebrated the finest ingredients. The experience was truly delightful, creating a perfect harmony between beauty and gastronomy.

Very friendly and helpful staff with good communication. The hotel is very close to the station and you can book a tour with the hotel to Shirakawa Go or other spots near Takayama. The room was nice, tidy and at a really good price for the service. Would recommend!

The location is quiet and comfortable to reach by train, the breakfast was really good as well as the staff service, the room has a nice smell of traditional tatami mats, there's even the possibility to book a private bath! Really great accomodation
